Alrighty well i just got an old 1999 Chevy Silverado used for really cheap. Its the 5.3 liter V-8 version and i need some suggestions for what kind of mods are actually worth to put on it.

Any suggestions?

Aftermarket grill, I don't know if you've seen mine but it looks great and it was fuckin' cheap like $80. New exhaust, maybe get a brush guard if you like tearin shit up.

WORD.

why would you spend money on shit you don't NEED when gas is a fucking arm and a leg and without it your truck is a sitting pile of metal?

Dude it's a fucking truck what do you want to do throw a supercharger in it? lol

Look into getting a ECU flash from a company like superchips or something. It will net you better hp and tq and also they often have economy options as well, but expect to pay a couple hundred for it though.

An intake will also help marginally with economy and combined with an Exhaust will sound good and give you more power, Cherrybomb makes a good inexpensive truck exhaust that sounds pretty good IMO.

i you get new fuel injectors and cylinders you can improve the milage of the truck significantly, which will later save you money AND help the environment.

haha then you might have a problem, generally the greater the increase in hp the greater the decrease in gas mileage. An intake will help slightly as will a more free flowing exhaust, headers, no/high flow cat etc

2wd or 4x4? longbed or short? extended or single cab? The 5.3 has alot of performance parts out there for it since chevys make up a huge part of aftermarket demand.

lightweight rims and smaller (lighter) tires will improve gas milage, but might hurt it if your gearing isn't wide enough (ie tires smaller = higher RPMs). But shaving unsprung weight is one of the easier and cheaper ways to get more performance and efficiency, better milage too and big tires arent necessarily good on a skibum car.

intake, exhaust, headers, hi-flo cats. will give better gas mileage if you drive the same. youll feel a bit faster. biggest thing will be to get a handheld tuners from superchisp

If it doesnt have independent front suspensions then its supper easy to do a 3 - 5 inch lift no prob for around $500. But if it has IFS, which im pretty sure it does, than its not worth your time or money. Sell it back and buy a onld cherokee or wrangler and just gut it and turn it into an all wheeling car and have a 2nd car as your daily driver. thats the way to go

If you want alot of performance out of that motor for not a shit load of scratch, I would suggest: volant intake, pacesetter LONG TUBE headers, Y pipe, magnaflow or flowmaster muffler, 160* thermostat, electric fans, 220/220 cam, shift kit, and most importantly a NELSON PERFORMANCE TUNED PCM. I cant stress the tune enough, do not waste your money on absolute shit like hypertech. If you really dont wanna spend much money at all just get the intake, headers, y pipe, muffler, and tune. Just those things will make a HUGE difference.

P.S. This obviously isn't a good site for info on this stuff; for EVERYTHING you'll ever need to know about any mod on your truck go to

and you actually DO get better gas gas mileage AND increased hp w/ a nelson tune, as long as the pedal isnt on the floor all the time....it makes the engine run more efficiently, therefore creating better gas mileage
