Trouble with Photos and Snow

hey NS im still learning new things in photography and getting the right settings in snow is hard and i was wondering what tricks are out there to help.

most of the shots i get have the subject who is skiing perfectly exposed and the snow overexposed with no detail. any input would help.

and im shooting with nikon d200

underexpose by a stop and half or so, and then use a fill flash if you need it.

shoot in the morning or the afternoon and not in the middle of the day , that will make the most difference. Also pay attention the the angle of the sun. If the sun is directly behind you when you shoot you won't get much contrast in the shot. If its slightly to the side it will create shadows in the snow and that will help the definition in the white areas.

if you are shooting digital, change your preview that pops up right after you take the photo to include the histogram. underexpose by enough stops that the histogram is as close to the dark side as possible without going over the edge.

not a rule, but it's a trick that works well for some stuff.
