Inspired by ideas about groups of skiers and filmers putting out mixtape style edits comes along the idea of a new site.

Much alike mixtapes in hip hop, tricktapes will feature less established riders, videographers, editors, and graphic design artists who come together to create nasty videos throughout the year. Tricktapes.com will be a video magazine/subscription that is open for submission. In the plans for the website; tricktapes will apear much like the mixtapes on sites such as mixtapehype.com Members on the website will be given unlimited access to the videos year round. We have created what we invision to be a tricktape style edit and want it to be viewed as a basic example for tricktapes that people can put together themselves.

Groups and athletes that have been invited to participate so far include groups like ATA and 4bi9. A few athletes have been Tom Wallisch, David Beallieu, Sam Ferguson, Alex Martini, Alex Schlopy, Adam Battersby, Tosh Peters, Mike Hornbeck, Jon Lafferty, Matt Walker, Charlie Lasser, Mcrae Williams, and Adam Delorme. It is encouraged that people submit an edit 4-20 minutes long in the form of a video link (youtube, putfile, google, brightcove). It is recommended that video edits come with a cover like a cd or dvd cover.

In the future of the site we would like to work with sponsors to give them access to scouting for new talent and keeping up on their current riders. Subscriptions will be somewhat like a mag, however will cost much less. 10 dolla/ yr.

Check out our first edit, which will be uploaded onto the site soon, but is for now in a link. www.Tricktapes.com has a design site of how the login might work.

what is incentives for people to make edit that is very long like you say for 20 minutes. It takes very much time to edit a short film. I think people want probably to save footage for the movies. Do you give a prize?

once the site is up and running a bit and has some subscribers, there will be competitions for best edits with prizes and cash. for example, best crew edit posted during june gets $500 or best solo trick tape in 1 day gets $100 or most all around destruction by anybody for the whole year gets $1000...etc

i can see that, but 8-20min is dam long. i would think companies would save the footage for their movie, and sell that. if everyones already seen the footage, whos gonna buy the movie?

If there werent names in the corner there would be no telling these kids apart.

I love robot style and sameway spins on boxes.

and little boys.

you are missing the consept....people who are talking about saving up footage for a film...tricktapes are shot for tricktapes, it is only like two days of shooting total anyways, its not really set up as a production for a ski film.

smoke blunts!

Well there are incentives for subscribers and for people that are putting tricktapes together.

For the people putting tricktapes together, like Matt Walker said, there will be yearly but hopefully monthly cash give aways for certain dope criteria.

And for subscribers it makes it much easier... Each year dozens of more underground film companies make a movie. Which is dope, it helps build the sport. But for some of the people looking to buy one or two of these underground vids they have no idea which one to get. Not only will tricktapes allow people to see skiers and parks from all over the world for 10 dollars for a whole year instead of a movie which costs 20 dollars and comes out once. But I am sure movie sales would still go up because people that put out great tricktapes will get a good response and attract more attention to their movie.

i like the idea it think im the only one who didnt really like that edit though

honestly i think 8 minutes is waaay too long

^I didn't like it either. Skiing was pretty good, but reggae music doesnt remind me of snowy mountains.

Why???? What would that do... They know what a high level of skiing is so why not let them pick and choose Whats going to make the vid and what isnt.. I think its a great idea...

And there going to make a little cash!

I dunno what it will do. but it certainly would help keep NS as a portal for skiing. I am sure they could work out something with NS. It's a good idea, it just seems to fragment things more.

mayyybe cuz ns has almost 100,000 members and a lot of them would definately pay $10 for this, and it would be less annoying if they were actually a part of ns than advertising in the forums all the time. I'm sure it'll work well on its own too particularly if they do some official advertising through ns, but if they were together it would add a lot to newschoolers and give the tricktapes people lots of business. I mean the VAST majority of the people who would subscribe to this are active members of ns I'd bet. and it was just a suggestion.

yo so sick. sucha good idea and good edit to start it off with. yay for park skiing, makes shit seem like skate style movies more
