Hi NS,

I just launched https://trickipedia.xyz/ , an encyclopedia of skiing tricks. Currently you'll notice that there are only two tricks on the site, and that's because I want to use video examples provided by the skiing community. Other websites with the same idea for other sports, like http://www.club540.com/tricktionary for tricking, just use videos taken from pros. But I thought that getting the community involved would be more fun.

If you feel like you have a trick down perfectly and want to be featured as the textbook example of the trick, go on to the submit page of my site and send a video! Rules for submissions are on the site, and all skiers featured will be given full credit (filmers too of course). Eventually I want the site to have everything from front 270s out to triple 18s.

Thank you!

Slap v2.0

It's similar only in that I want submissions from the community. Once I accept a submission for a trick it will be the only video of that trick on the site, and I won't take further submissions for the same trick. An accepted submission will be used as an example video on the site permanently. Eventually, granted I get enough submissions, I want this to be a complete resource of videos and descriptions of all skiing tricks. It is not a social media site.

TLDR: Slapp was used to post single tricks to get likes, this will eventually (hopefully) be a complete database of skiing tricks.

Sick project dude. Naming ski tricks is political through. My tip: stay away from trying to categorize flatspins and rodeos all together :)

Really miss this. Prior to throwing new tricks for the first time, I could watch hundreds (no exaggeration there), of clips all of that one trick. I think it helped me visualize body movements.

It would be awesome if users could add to the library so there is more than just one video of each trick.

Thanks that’s my flat spin lol. The less inverted the better IMO

No offense taken if you replace my lip on b2 with a clip of Dan doing one

You should keep the slot until I get one on Red Ledge. Respect ?

Just sent it to my friend maybe he upload one of the craziest tricks ive seen irl the Nikula flip

That trick was fucking insane, what does nikula mean it's a great name

I think it’d be sweet to see a few clips for each trick. Community rating on the clips may or may not be the move.

I think it may just be his last name.

Its his last name. His name is Robin Nikula. We think its a worlds first so he named it that. Syrjä has done similar but landing forward but we havent seen one landing switch

accepted your underflip and babycrusher, they're on the page now. Would have taken the torque soul but I'm limiting it to 2 tricks per skier for now

I will likely add more clips for different grabs and axis variations in the future, but it's staying as 1 per trick for now

idk if it's feasible or not, but it would be cool if you could add tags to each trick, and filter tricks like such. like 'rail', 'jump', 'butter', 'grab', and then more specifically like for rails 'grind/slide' 'spin out' and for jumps 'swap' or 'spin', 'flip', 'cork', etc. and these could just be like hashtags, u would add whatever applies and then you could search for certain tags. this would be helpful eventually when there's a bunch of tricks.

I am planning on adding categories once the main page has begun to fill up. It won't be very hard to implement

if higher quality clips are uploaded but are also textbook, would those replace the current ones?

Part of why I think there should be multiple clips, in addition to not everyone spinning the same direction and both variations of a trick being valuable to see.

W thanks, also this is incredible we really needed this for our sport. I've been begging for a book of grinds type site, can't believe we finally got one!

Y’all should check out the idX app. A guy redid the slapp app but made it better in a number of ways. Actually met up with the creator at park city and is fully doing it for the love/growth of the sport. Great guy! (He’s a snowboarder too)

Thanks, book of grinds was an inspiration for this for sure. Rollerblading is way smaller than skiing but between book of grinds and amall trick tips I think they have better resources than we do haha

I would only replace the original clip if there was a problem with it and it was only there are a placeholder.

For example if someone submitted a rare trick that wasn't on the site that had a slightly sketchy landing, I would still use it. But once someone uploaded the same trick with better execution I would replace the original clip.

Isn't there already an encyclopedia of ski tricks out there? I swear I've seen it before

I searched a lot before starting writing this and couldn't find any other than the FIS list which is pretty pathetic

Nice. Are there ones for other sports like snowboarding, skateboarding, skating, etc.? If not you could add subsections and create the go to site for this shit, complete with ads for revenue.

would be cool if multiples of the same trick could be entered and display them in order of likes. the earlier you submit, the more likely you are to be the first one but if someone has a more stylish version then they can overtake the trick. also if your trying to learn a trick it could be helpful to see the variations from skier to skier. i don’t know shit about creating a platform such as this though soooo theres that lol

As long as the trick is very well executed and filmed I don't really want to replace it, I thought of your idea and I think that if the site is popular than the main videos will eventually all be shots of pros. That's fine for the hardest tricks, but I want normal people to have a shot at getting a place on the front page. I will implement variations / include more clips in a menu at the bottom of each trick's page when I revise the site next.

I haven't looked into it but I'm not against the idea of including more sports. However right now I am the only person involved in the site and writing all of the descriptions / making categories myself, and the only sports I know well are skiing and blading. Blading does have a similar site, but the idea of this one is different enough that it would still make sense to include.

If this site gets more popular than I would consider finding someone to help me or just putting in the work to learn more about the other sports. I'm sure that my descriptions and difficulty rankings would be contentious though haha

Nikula flip should be under "PRO." That's fucking insane.

Pro difficulty is going to be reserved for tricks like dub 14s. I agree the trick was nuts though

making it so you can only submit clips of you would get rid of that right? (that's the current rule?) and if there's a pro using the sight... that's pretty cool

i was trying to remember what app did this, i think its cool but similarly to slapp it's pretty much impossible to get people on there vs. tiktok and insta

So cool to see great work! Something I think is really useful and great for skiers to have. Im excited to see the trick list grow and grow.

Also to the people talking about Slapp. We had some unfortunate server issues and lost most the original data 2 years back. Still working on getting all the content and information re connected and back online. Keep and eye out for the App to be back in the short future under a new name of just SLVSH.

Thank you for the kind words! And good luck with getting the new app up and running.

By the way, I'd be honored to include one of your dub 10 blunts (or a trick of your choice) on my site
