Trekkers on Hellbents- Pros and Cons?

I may get scorched because I'm being lazy as all fuck and not even bothering to searchbar, but never the less-

I have access to free Trekkers and I already have Hellbents mounted up with Pivot 14s.... To the people who know what they're talking about, what would be the pros and cons of mounting up the Trekkers? I really want to start touring a bunch this season and have access to all other necessary gear, I just wonder whether the Trekkers will ruin the Hellbents?

+K to all the helpful posts.

I don't personally tour, no local terrain that you can tour on really. BUT from word of mouth, and forming my own opinion, I'd say that trekkers might be only worth it if you were going to tour some easy access terrain from the lift. If you plan on doing some legitimate touring, then trekkers likely aren't worth it.

But if they are free, you myaswell take them and try touring some lift access stuff for the heck of it. Never know, you may just like them. It all boils down to personally preference between tech, alpine touring, and alternatives to both of those like the trekkers, right?

Good Luck!

Trekkers are alright.... only really any good for short hikes that aren't very steep. I would look into the MFD alltimes or anything like a baron, adrenilin etc. so you can still climb but shred on the way down. But if the trekkers are free I say why not? go for it.

Thanks to both you guys, appreciate the help. I'm definitely tempted to just mount them up for the hell of it. My main concern though is what the Trekkers will do to the ski itself? The hellbents are already pretty heavy, and I know that the trekkers will only make that problem worse. Also, is it going to create a dead spot in the ski? That's what some friends have been saying.

I do a lot of touring with trekkers and hellbents. I really like them but the only problem I have is the convience. It takes time to take off the trekkers, know the snow off, put them in your pack. But its not that bad. They dont damage the ski or binding at all. I have used them with marker griffon and free 10 salomon sth 16. No problems. If you can get the trekkers free, do it.

Well you completely remove the trekker when you descend, so since its not even on the ski it won't create a dead spot. And it shouldn't hurt the ski or binding at all unless it somehow got clicked into your bindings weird and then your proceded to tour with it (super unlikely scenario) and they aren't wildly heavy either from the one pair I've felt, but then again I have no personal touring experience. Update us if you take them and use them.

Hmmmm, I honestly had no idea that you took off the Trekkers for the descent. Fuck me. I need to learn how this stuff works! I guess if you take them off, there really shouldn't be any problem at all, hey? Sweet! Thanks guys! I think I'll probably take up the offer!

I know the video your talking about, he's just skinning up the resort with his dog. I'm not sure if he uses them when he actually does real tours but valid point

So, just to clarify, are you talking trekkers or MFD alltimes? From what you're saying, you sound like you're talking about the MFD.

Trekker won't affect your ski at all, it's just a device that clips into your regular downhill binding. With the setup you have, anything longer than an hour will just be hell with trekkers, because with the hellbents you have such a small surface contacting the skintrack and trekkers are rather unstable.

But if your just lookin for a couple sidecountry laps a month/season, then definately worth it.

I would only reccommend trekkers for short tours that aren't very technical. Trekkers have a habit of coming off during high angle sidehilling and that sort of thing, just the time when you don't want your skis to be coming off. Also, each time before you use them, make sure all the bolts and such are completely screwed down tight, they sometimes can work themselves loose after a few uses. Also, hellbents and trekkers would be the heaviest touring setup on the face of the planet so don't plan on doing any overnight tours or anything because you will die.

Basically, both are options for turning DH bindings into something that you can tour in.

Trekkers will go IN your binding, and get remover when you get to the top, allowing you to ski down with the security/comfort of your regular bindings.

MFD is a plate that you mount to your skis, which you then mount your DH bindings onto. These will switch between ski and tour mode, but are always on your ski.

I won't argue any pro's/con's for either, but everyone is very opinionated about both systems haha
