Travis Rice Supernatural

Just read this in an interview of travis, he just continues to change the game, i wish there was someone in skiing like him.

"I've been working on The Supernatural for three years now, and it's happening next winter. Essentially we have this place in interior British Columbia that is a 2,200-foot face, and we can basically do whatever we want with it. Right now we're going in there with a construction crew and completely changing it. At the top 500 feet, we're building, like, 60 features: topping trees, building platforms, building arches, and all kinds of crazy sh*t. Up there the snow pillows so perfectly that we're essentially going to have the craziest run in the world. You have this massive run we're throwing an [exorbitant] amount of money into. Next winter, 20 of the world's best snowboarders will converge there for one week. I'm hoping this will be the future of snowboarding and competition venues. If it works, we'll build more all over the world."

Holy crap. Do you know how much money that would take just to do on the face of an easily accessible mountain? much less in the middle of BC somewhere? It sounds truly nuts, in a good way.

It's at Baldface cat skiing/boarding operation which is relatively close to Nelson BC. Not sure on the tenure there as to whether you can tour/sled up to it or not, but I think Baldface is hard to access (you usually heli or boat across a lake into the lodge area I believe).

You can always tour or sled in a mechanized skiing tenure. They only have rights to the commercial use. Whether or not you piss people off or not is another thing...Might try and tail guide there this winter........

Baldface is a little tricky to get into, but not impossible. I know what I'm doing this winter.

Unless I'm misinterpreting something here, how is this any different or worse than cutting a trail for a resort?

Nice, didn't realize all operations had to allow sledders in, I know I've seen them at Retallack. It works if they are respectful of the commercial operation and don't ruin stuff or interfere with guests enjoyment (afterall, the operation builds and grooms the roads, good idea not to piss them off).

I think the Super Natural contest has a 2 week window? So outside of that I wonder if they will let guests hit it. Would be awesome to go out there and camp for a few days and hit it.

most cat/heli operations have an unspoken (or sometimes spoken) agreement with the local snowmobile community where in the sledders stay off their tenure while they are in operation. Of course, there's always going to be some out towners who are unaware of said agreement and the exact boundaries of the tenure and just head right in mid day being... well, typical asshole sledders.

I think only BC Hydro (and certain logging companies) is brazen enough to try and actually ban people from certain drainages, even though it's crown land. But that's a different story.

i'm willing to bet it;s a zone that is in Art of Flight, my guess, the zone they shred from roughly 1:04:30 - 1:05:25. (i know that's in the Revelstoke segment, but i'm sure they shred surrounding areas besides Revelstoke) Definitely sounds insane!

Yeah they should probably hire me to head out there mid winter and "asses" the impact... I'll make sure that it gets inspected really well.

just re-watched the seg, that zone is nuts so i wouldn't be surprised but i guess we just have to wait and see

I would pay so much money to hit something like this. This could be the future of parks in mountains that get tons of snow. Just build tons of pillows and drops and let the snow cover it all up. Could be gnarly

they sell a product that costs less than a quarter to produce for $3+ a can.. anything selling for 700% revenue oozes with money.
