Travis Rice makes skiing look foolish

your kinda dumb... you cant compare the two sports like this, switch shit on skis is totally different, its just called the same thing, and saying he did sicker shit on chads then tanner and jon is wrong, tanner did a switch 9 and jon did a misty switch 9 i think, and no ones ever seen the footage. plus that was like 2 or 3 years ago. oh and also you cant compare buttering on snowboards to skiing, buttering on a board is 10 times easier.

haha seriously, I bumped it cause i thought it would be interesting, what people would think about it now. Skiing is definitely getting up there but I cant say anyone is doing triple backflip 180's over 150 foot jumps on skis yet.

not at all. going switch on skis may be harder, but spinning switch is the same difficulty. just watch the xgames. the winner of big air on a snowboard (trice) did a double rodeo 1080, while the winner on skis did a double frontflip (lame!). i hate to see our sport degress.

I've come to the conclusion that Travis Rice isn't real. He is either a robot or a figment of our imaginations. I have never seen anyone shred as hard as that guy. Tanner Hall comes close, but I think I have to give the tip of the hat to Rice.

Travis Rice is insane, but I have the same objections to this thread that I did when it was created. Travis is not doing things on Sage's level in terms of the lines he is hitting. He is pretty insane in other aspects. Travis is unbelievable all around, but I don't see him as leaving skiing in the dust because I value the big mountain aspect of our sport FAR more than the pipe/park/backcountry booter aspect. Rice is insane though, anyone should be able to appreciate his skills. The title of this thread should have been something along the lines of Travis Rice is very skilled. That I would have no problem with.

I would have to agree with that, He doesn't make skiing look foolish but he has done things that have never been done before.

heres how I see it

This discussion reminds me of hockey. When I watch a Canadiens game ( relate with any of your favorite temas, dont bash mine) no matter how nice the goals are and how good the game was, whenever I see the highlights of other teams I think, wow the canadiens are so far from this level. Yet they are ranked higher than most of the teams I see in the highlights that give me this impression. I dont know why this is the case but it is.

It sounds like the same thing is happening with some people about skiing and snowboarding. Maybe it is because we are constantly seeing the same tricks and seeing them on one board instead of two refreshes that feeling of amazement. As in hockey these tricks are performed by an other team (team snowboard) and even though they generaly do pretty much what we do, we tend to concentrate and remember the good things about snowboarding because they are all new to us. Where as in skiing we tend to ignore the amazing things because they are a part of our daily lives and we have seen it done many times. Even if it means pressing rewind a million times when seeing charles gagniers switch 1260 octo or seeing an other kangaroo flip we are more exposed to these than any snowboarding. We concentrate on the negative aspects of skiing because all of the good things have lost their lust after agressively rewinding.

For example, we havnt seen a snowboarder do a switch 1260 double nose grab but if it happened, I guarantee you that we would be making an other thread like this one. Even though this trick is of the same difficulty as charles trick, we are not going crazy about the octo grab because we all pressed rewind at least 4 times when it first apeared in a movie.

Snowboarding brings a sense of something new to the table since we dont watch it as much and that, I beleive is why it impresses us to the point that it does.

on a side note, I know for a fact that the same thing is happening on the other side of the spectrum. Many snowboarders also think that skiers are killing it and surpass their sport. This is an actual fact, lots of snowboarders I know feel this way and have told me. Not saying that skiing has necessarily surpassed snowboarding, but they beleive this sometimes for the same reason that we do of them.

Interesting theory but I gotta disagree. I'm usually pretty bored watching snowboarding because it's hard for me to relate to it, I don't know how difficult any of the tricks are and it doesn't look as stylish to me as skiing. Travis Rice is different. Watching him board blows my skull wide open. You can immediately tell everything he's doing is insane, and it's all stylish as fuck. My snowboarding friends are blown away by Rice too, because he's doing stuff no one has really done before. At the very least, he makes the rest of snowboarding look foolish.

Why are you guys even talking about pop. If Travis makes skiing look like a joke it is in Thats it Thats All, he has takin double cork 10's to the backcountry and there isnt a ski movie to date that can compare with the cinematography in Thats it Thats All. I dont think you can really compare tricks on skis with board tricks but all skiers should try to do for skiing what travis has done for snowboarding. J hole represent

I never date check. It's getting really annoying. Searchbar away people, seriously, glad to see you're using it, but if a thread is more than a year old you're in the clear to make a new one... Jesus.

He was a ripper when he was a little grom skier. Even sick snowboarders have their sick skiing roots.

I dont know about that one. I cant say ive seen T rice hit pillows like tanner did in Believe even on a snowboard.

im sorry, but those jibs on the top of the pine tree were crazier than anything i saw on skis last year. I saww the guy boarding the tram in jackson and he is fucking crazyyy

I want to see a snowboarder 450 on pretzel 630 out. Or, 270 on to a down flat down pretzel switch up pretzel 270 out. Travis is dope but it's apples and oranges. Switch snowboarding is not switch skiing. hid double flips are sick but so are jons. they basically did the same trick at x games big air but jon did it switch.

Rice's doubles > Jon's doubles by a pretty wide margin.

Those tricks you listed are impossible on a snowboard because they can't really grip rails. That being said, Travis on BC booters and natural terrain is the epitome of epic snow sports.
