over the summer i will be going to Kenya for 2 1/2 weeks. i will be bringing my canon rebel. i was wondering if you guys have some ideas on how i can store and protect my photos. i dont really want to take my mac book with me but i also dont want to take one SD card (i am just nervous something will happen with no backup) so whats a good way to protect all the photos i will be taking. i know there are backup devices but the ones im looking at are really expensive. thanks guys

also any other tips you can think of would be awesome.

Traveling with a cam can be stressful for sure. A locking pelican case could be an idea. If you will have a smartphone with you then look into an Eye-Fi card and you can back them up on the phone wirelessly. Otherwise just get a bunch of cards and don't lose them. SD cards are cheap anymore so having a spare can't hurt. As far as actual backup without a computer, I don't know what to tell ya if you don't want to get one of those backup devices.

alright thanks man. i have a pelican case already. i think I'm just going to bring multiple cards. thanks for the tips

For trips to Africa I would get some crappy old second hand netbook with built in SD card reader. Then you can back up to the netbook, to the internet, and have a device to access the internet on your travels.

For those kind of trips I use a 5-year-old Lenovo IdeaPad s10 which I have hackintoshed. I bet you can find those used for less than $100.

You could also do this with an iPad + SD card dongle, but iPads are much more prone to theft.

If you have access to hot spots. I would suggest going to a cafe and loading your photos onto your dropbox. And bringing multiple cards is a great idea. You will need more than one im sure. I would also suggest getting a camera bag that doesn't look like a regular camera bag. More like a regular bag, You will be less targeted. Make sure your backpack is always touching your body, when you sit down , put your foot inside the straps. I got my tripod stolen at a bus stop once, it was sitting next to my bag and when i went to pay someone took it.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking about taking my iPad because it will always be with me and it would be super easy to dump photos in (alongside the multiple cards).
