Track dolly / Time Lapse technique

So recently I have seen both ski edits and other creative videos where people have panned/tilted/zoomed/etc. during a time lapse sequence. I know that some of these people use special electric dolly tracks to acquire this effect, but in the momentum ski edit session 2, the filmer also used this technique. He may have rigged up this advanced system on the ski hill but I really doubt it.

(watch from about 1:20 - 1:35).

So if anyone knows how to get this cool looking effect without a really expensive dolly track, please let me know!

Thanks.

Here is another excellent example of how this effect can change your filming...

I think the cheapest route is to get a telescope tripod/head that you can control and set it to move or there's expensive ones meant for time lapses.

Hope that helps somewhat

Those were two difrent ways of doing a moving timelapse. The first was done with a still camera and then in post he set key frames and moved the frame inside the viewing window. The second was done with a slow moving camera track system.

yep thats your cheapest(free) way to do it

it doesn't have to be still either, you can zoom video too

in fcp you would just need to zoom in a little, so you have some room to move, and kayframe motion

yeah i use after effects and vegas, idk what you'd use for it but you can just set the video to zoom into the shot slow ( you'll notice the videos dont zoom very far so as not to lose quality). so id just use it post- capture in an editing program, thats the cheapest way. hope that helps

dude all they are doing here is a ken burn effect except with video. its all about key framing. u go to the start of the clip and zoom in/out and position it to wherever u want it to start and go to the last frame of the clip and adjust it to where u want it to end and bam. no dolleys no tracks no gizmos no expensive/electric motors built into your tripods. these guys all have expensive cameras so they can zoom in a lot so just take note if you dont have a camera with a lot of megapixels when you do this quality might be kinda bad

check this out you'll love it if you like this effect.....this is prob not postproduction though

yes true...but let me quote the OP real quick...."So if anyone knows how to get this cool looking effect without a really expensive dolly track, please let me know!

Thanks. "

ok so after that is said..how i described it is what hes looking for. that second video prob is dolley. one thing i noticed in the video too...the sky is sorta fake..well some of it. thats the closest you can get to HDR VIDEO which i thought was cool
