Town Hall Debate

From what I saw from the first answer John McCain is going to win this one by a moderate to large margin. He's great at this format.

Obama is answering this a lot better, i hope he can make a whole lot of call outs on McCain and that at the end the audience won't buy the character McCain is trying to sell

Obama's answer on the 3rd question was really good. McCain's ventures into the audience's personal space is getting a little cheesy.

Goal! good move to the oil. McCain seems so phony compared to this, perhaps it's just my bias.

eliminate programs that don't work -- good bye war on drugs? if some one want's to rebuild it it'll be Biden.

Obama sounded great on the economy. It makes so much sense that the really rich people and businesses should pay just a little more taxes so that life doesn't suck as much for everyone who doesn't happen to have a shitload of money. How does that not make sense? Basically we are talking about narrowing the shockingly huge wealth gap between the rich and poor people in the country

and how does increasing taxes facilitate company/economic growth and development in the US? On a simplistic level, doesn't that encourage growth outside of the US? Which simultaneously makes the US economy less competitive? Or something like that?

what if it does? does that mean that those who have made it to the top will do the most unpatriotic thing and leave their country?

then what happens?

Do the new entrepreneurs come in from the middle class and fill those spots with new wealth and new patriotism, who'll not outsource to other nations?

are you really that naive to think that for companies, big and small, their first duty is being patriotic to whatever country they are in?

i mean it is asinine. A company doesn't have to be all that large: where would somebody start their company, or ideally run their company from: a country who taxes them, say, 11%, or one that taxes them 40%?

Unbelievably, I think Obama is winning the format. McCain is hitting too many issues in individual answers and it sounds confused and disjointed... the only thing that seems to be tying his thoughts together is "My Friends".

Also can I say, Tom Brokaw is doing a way better job than other moderators in these debates of holding these guys to account when they filibuster, even though they're still doing it. He kept them short on that last answer.

no i really have faith that IF we go through a tough recession/depression, that the next generation of business owners will stay in America, and i also think that Obama's tax plan is just temporary, and that we can change things in the future. Right now, it's the best possible option.

Er... the Obama tax plan doesn't change anything for the vast majority of small businesses... so... yeah.

ok when obama started talking about using force to prevent the mass slaughter of civilians, doesnt that sorta justify iraq?

haha IMO barack looked like a bumbling idiot, (drew, i said idiot;) when he started talkng after he said "for the most part i agree with John McCain"

IMO of course.

dude doesnt respect his elders or his country. cant even salute the flag/troops, shake hands with troops, cover his heart during the pledge of allegiance or national anthem. god he really loves this country.

are we talking about retroactive justice? Or is he talking about serving justice as its happening?

i agree though he fucked up on Russia

ya he also stole mad shit from regan and jfk not just ideas, but word for word using what they said as his own.

I am willing to lay good odds on this one being declared an Obama victory after it's all said and done. He won the economy section hands down and put up a solid fight in the 2nd half, winning about as many points as he lost. McCain had crowd interaction, but it looked a little fake. I say 60-40 Obama, and the debates are now tied 1-1.

i tuned in for small portions at a time. Mccain i believe one the closing argument, Obama pulled a Sarah Palin and averted the gist of the question.

you know what i saw every dam time obama opened his mouth?

dollar signs.

money for this, money for that... i honestly dont see how barack is going to pay for it all while giving 95% of americans a tax break...

thats a joke in and of itself. because 40millon americans dont even pay fed income taxes.

lol mccain hit him with the fannie mae shit haha thats harsh. obama has taken more money from fannie mae than anyone... wow that really helps the people doesnt it. no. economic policy? i agree with mccain buy back all the fucked up mortgages. people got screwed that wasnt fair, they need help what obama wants to do doesnt help.

And as the Town Hall McCains 'knock out event' by not knocking Obama out gives Obama the edge

has anyone looked into this shit thats going on in eastern pennsylvania with a judge ordering obama to release his birth certificate and a few other key pieces of documentation about a persons life. so far he has refused to show anyone his birth certificate and income statements... why not show people? i mean you have to.. its not a choice but he is choosing not to release it, wonder why was he really born in the US? btw this was a liberal lawyer and judge that ordered this. the obama party asked them to squash it all and the liberal lawyer and judge said no.

hahahaha tom brokaw

im in the library at school doing some work, and i was passively listening to the stripped-down live feed from cnn.com, and after the debate wrapped they just stuck with live feed and the microphones were still picking up brokaw talking to his technical crew afterward...saying stuff like "that was miserable" and "i was just looking for a trap door in the floor i could drop through" and "keeping those guys on track and under time is like herding cats"

funny shit

I thought it was hilarious how Barack kept avoiding questions and started ranting about things other than the question and that would cost us billions and billions of dollars.

BTW Drew can't wait for the next arguement...................lookin foward to it!

ehhhh not really man. Money does make the world go around if you hadn't noticed.

The biggest money drain the USA has right now is fighting endless wars. I dont think you really understand how much of a money sink that really is. Every single piece of equipment every soldier uses costs a fuckload of money and every single part of every jet/tank/gun also costs a fuckload. Cutting back in Iraq would save us a shit load of money for us to use in our own country.

I don't know what you really expect, if you think McCain is just going to suddenly stop spending money on anything at all? The money is going to be spent no matter what, its just WHERE the money is spent on is what matters. For example, Bush wasted a fuckload of money in my opinion and now we are paying for it.

Honestly, I think Obama would do a better job managing money and spending it on what Americans want, rather than what McCAin would do and just spend the money in whatever he and his buddies see fit, completely ignoring the people.

And by the way, Im a registered Republican, but Im sorry, McCain is a fucking tool.

o when they asked "what would you ask the american people to sacrifice"

i would have said in elegant terms that due to the YEARs of fiscal irresponsobility in the past years of our nations history i would be asking the american people for a tax raise...

a raise that would go only to paying down the national debt and NOTHING else, we would get this country back on the straight and narrow on spending... after that, taxes are CUT, and they stay low....

coming from a conservative..... but i personally would be fine with paying more taxes if i knew it was going to fix the national debt, and thats it, nothing else.

o believe me, IMO MCCain is only hair better than barack, but IMO McCain is a hair better... not much, but a bit...

o and OBama really is pretty close to McCain on the war, and advocates moving a truck load of more troops into Afghanistan after... so the money is going to be going out the door no matter who you choose..

700B for iraq right? we spend that every year in fogin oil.... i agree though, both huge numbers, but barack still will spend more than mccain, atleast if they stick to what they have been spewing...

dude, Bush just gave a "stimulus" check out like 6 months ago. Did you miss that? Now what, should bush ask for that money back?

Rofl, what you expect us to pay off 9 trillion + dollars with one tax raise? Wow man, you really don't understand how much money that is, do you?

I don't know, I think Obama's plan is more strategic in Afghanistan. Hit em quick and hit em hard where it hurts rather than do more Nation Building like McCain wants to do. The costs of Nation Building is honestly what is fucking the US right now.
