Tourism is killing skiing. I think.

Lift tickets to every resort in park city is 100 dollars. Whistler is 100. Heavenly is 100. My grandma remembers skiing at Alta, which is 90, for ten dollars with gas charges. Tourism killing skiing? I think yes.

You are an idiot. There's really no way around it. Please do us all a favor and step away from the computer.

Tourism brings money to skiing, so it probably isn't killing it. If places like Whistler relied on purely core skier visits, they would probably go out of business, seeing as most of those utopian resorts make their money from "gapers" who don't ski often, and go for fancy dinners, spend money at the resort, buy lessons, etc.

how about 'tourism is the only thing keeping the ski industry above water' Because... guess what? Resorts make close to shit from season pass holders. We dont buy tickets, we dont buy lunch, we dont buy lesson, we dont stay at hotels, etc etc etc.

You are fucking dumb

And what the fuck do you think tourists have to do with higher ticket prices? Resorts set ticket prices, and if they decide to raise prices to make more money off of tourists thats the resort's fault. Plus most ski areas need tourists to stay in business anyway.Season passes are cheap, day passes are expensive.

the prices in lift tickets have gone up from when your grandma was skiing because of inflation in the world. and those resorts can charge prices like that becasue they make fuck all from season pass holders and make it off the tourists and that gives them the money to put in sweet parks like whis!

bitch how the fuck do you think the resorts get funded to keep spinning around and getting your sad ass up the hill? I payed $844 for my season pass this season. It's still overpriced, but i'm happy as long as my lift is going strong and i can ski.

pussy.

If it wernt for tourism Resorts wouldnt make any money, and they would all run out of business. So if anything they are keeping it alive.

alta is 90 ? pretty sure its 68 dollars after you buy your rfid card one time. if you are proving a point make sure to do some research

really? Ever heard of inflation. Tourism is the only thing that keeps ski resorts alive. If there were not tourists and oly locals all the mountains would close.

Let me cut and paste a post a made a few months ago.

"If Vail cut ticket prices by $2.66 last year and held everything else constant, they would have lost money. Last year Vail resort's made $16.391 million through all of their ventures. This is a huge company. They own 7 of the biggest and most well known resorts in the US. Vail's "Mountain Revenue" which includes revenues from tickets, ski school, food, retail, etc was $766.608 million. There were 6.144 million skier visits which is 12% of all skier visits nationally."

If anything, tourism is keeping resorts alive. Sorry to say but resorts don't give 2 shits about the die-hard locals that clock in 70+ days a year at the resort. It's just how it is. We're not shelling out 2g's worth of money for tickets and condos and food for the week.

Those prices are probably fair. It costs a lot to run a resort. Plus its a business so there needs to be some profit.

there have been numerous threads about this and all of them reach the conclusion that resorts have a ridiculously slim profit margin, meaning the prices are the minimum they can charge without going out of business

Places like vail can charge $100 a pop for a reason, as stated before running a ski resort cost a fuckton of money. For example Vail has a fleet of 40 or so snow cats. Those things cost at least 250,000 for just a small one x40 = 10 million just in the price of the cats not including paying drivers, diesel, maintenence, etc.

no there are no more than 10 touring skiers at my resort a day usually less and i ski in washington where we get hammered with snow. 10 inches today made for a very nice day. maybe in 10 years your conclusion could be true but not right now...

not only did you use both you're and your correctly, you also managed to mix them up. do not pass go. do not collect $200.

I've been drinking all night. Sweet jesus if it isn't the grammar/ grandma police.

It's the internet DEAL WITH IT BRO

I sure hope this is a troll, I can't live on this planet anymore if the new generation of kids are this idiotic.

Maybe i'm just taking his post the wrong way but I think that was his point. He was being sarcastic by posting a similar statement to OP

i thought he was implying that obama caused prices in general to rise.

but i fucking hate politics and economics and my meter's probably in need of a tune up so
