Tour of Excellence Discussion Thread.

This thread is for exactly what it sounds like, discussing each persons shots. Give props, critique, whatever, just try and keep it civil and constructive. Telling someone their photo sucks doesn't make them take better. Explaining to them what they could work on does.

Sklar, I really enjoyed how different each of your photos were. I especially liked the portrait, very editorial. And I would love to see more photos of that cabin in Colorado. Nice job!

Sklar, that portrait is rad. Really like it. I feel like it could possibly be even better if the table wasn't so cluttered, but it's tough to say. Guessing you're sponsored by/work for atomic?

Okay, so I just dropped my entry, but there is a typo in the description of photo 3. I said "If you look to the left side of the photo.." but I ment to say, "If you look to the right side of the photo."

Sweet photos so far guys! Ill post some more in depth thoughts later, but so far this is super rad.

vancouver, your ski picture is really good, and so is your where i live picture. that bike trail looks amazing!

the original works for me. but we need to get a mod in there and delete some of the extra stuff, like people saying 'threads". already getting messy.

^Honestly, this thread is gonna get messy with failed embeds. I say any post that has a failed embed just gets deleted and the poster must fix it. Thats prob the only way we're gonna keep it neat and tidy.

^K, sick. But I don't get why people need it in their threads, its stickied, and each person has a time frame?

Workign on getting mine up! the film scanners are down/have been booked so tomorrow im hoping to get a few hours scanning then ill have them up tomorrow evening!

Sounds good!

Not sure why people have such a hard time reading the OP of the submission thread.... it clearly says just photos go in there...

We kinda picked a terrible time to do this. Everyone in high school is right in the middle of exams. I feel like this would go much smoother in the summer.

sorry if i'm missing anything, but i just discovered this thread and was curious if it's open to anyone and if so, a little more details would be awesome. (just skimmed through this thread briefly, and also saw the submissions one)

definitely interested to enter, have a ski shot from a couple days ago and i'm getting some film back tomorrow with some other shots that could fit the categories.

thanks in advance

great shots chunter. Liked your descriptions too, they really showed why you chose the photos you did.

Macaque, I really like the portrait. He looks a little uncomfortable to have his picture taken, but I don't think it takes away from the photo much at all. And home photo definitely captures the feel of the PNW, I like it.

And I think it's my day today, so I'll get mine up in a couple minutes.

MACAQUE, your shit is awesome. Only complaints are I wish the cliff drop was timed a bit earlier, not a fan of the mid-air full body extension steeze. and the random. not feeling it at all, just doesnt do anything for me and long exposures of water are overdone to death. other than that, everything is spot on, favourite is the home photo. i thought it was vancouver at first, looks so much like waterfront park.

Thanks guys. I really missed the timing on the cliff shot for sure.
Everyone's entries so far have been really nice.

Just put my stuff up. Hope you guys like them... this has really been my first 2 months of photography, so I was really trying something new here, and overall I'm fairly satisfied with my stuff.

gavin i loved yours. i see what u mean about the skiing photo with the framing, but it looks like hes coming off the rail early, which ruins it for me. if he was cranked up, ready to 2/4 off, that would be sick. know what i mean?on a better note, ur portrait and random are so sick. love the abstract approach to the chairlift.

Nice job man! cant wait for my day

thanks man!

he was in fact coming off of the rail early. i still liked the shot because in a way it looked like he was nosepressing out, so that's why i used it anyway.

stoked to see yours!

jrcoyotes21:

i love your skiing shot. i think the composition is fantastic, the way the sunset light draws your attention to the skier in the top right hand portion of the photo is very well done. i like your portrait, but as you said, nothing special. i like your random as well, but it might have been better to get in a position so that the sun was shining on the front of your subject... but all in all, i liked those three. i didn't much like your home shot because it was a little hard to see what was going on, i think the tree was too underexposed, and the horizon was not level either.

i liked them though, man! great work!

thanks! I didnt really like the home shot either but it was the only one i could think of that portrayed my home area.. i dont get out shooting around the home much.
