For all of those who follow cycling and the Tour de France.Thoughts? Predictions? Here are mine:Yellow Jersey: Lance Armstrong (His last tour, I think he'll step it up and do something incredible).Green Jersey: Mark Cavendish (A little far behind Thor Hushovd, but will recover).Polka Dot Jersey: Matthew Lloyd (On form, strong rider).White Jersey: Andy Schleck (Fairly successful career so far, good young all-rounder).Team: Saxo-Bank (Full of talent, well balanced team).

I would fucking love to see armstrong and cavendish in jerseys in paris. But I just don't think lance can contain Contador enough in the mountains. Cavendish stepped it up today, he is definitely gonna win some more stages.

on a related note, i think that a lot of people in the tour are doping and are getting away with it. the technology in doping is further ahead than the technology they use to find it. some have even said that the cancer medicine for lance armstrong made it so they couldnt find traces of steroids because the medicine was so strong... opinions?

^total bullcraplance armstrong is the most tested athlete in the world, and has never once tested positive for performance enhancing drugs
there is a thing called blood-doping, where you take out a pint of blood put it back in before the race to increase the red blood cell count (correct me if I am wrong). There is no way to trace this unless something suspicious was found in the team room or something long those lines.
I think Armstrong has the desire, and definately deserves to end his career with another tour de france win.

i would love to see lance win it once more before finally retiring. It's hard to believe, but even a lot of the french are behind him now. Though truth be told, from what i could tell, a lot of europeans liked him before. Just not the people in charge.

I would love to see armstrong finally test positive. I hate all the uninformed americans who are always riding his dick saying he is the best cyclist in the world, when all he does is race one classic a year and just dick around at home training the rest of the year. we need another merckx to come up the ranks and show the world what cycling is really about.

cycling today isn't about who is best, its about who can juice and dope without getting caught. actually, that's all professional sports.

People also don't realize that the vast majority of the testing for the Tour is a Test/Epitest ratio test. They test the ratio of your testosterone to epitesterone, but not actually looking at the concentrations of each. They think that if your T levels are increased that you're doping. Most guys just go get a shot of epitesterone right before the piss test and pass with flying colors. Eaaaaasssy business.

Blood doping works too, it's just for serious drug tests..which happen very rarely.

I have had work and haven't gotten to see much of it yet. I sadly popped in on the 3rd stage and really haven't read up on it yet.

c'mon guys, whoevers the best at something deserves the win. if youre the best at doping and cheating tests then you should win.
hah not, i really think you guys are exaggerating the amount of doping and drug use in the tour. im sure it goes on, but drug tests in cycling are some of the most stringent in all of professional sports.

i can rightfully say that i never had that less interest in that thing like the last 2-4 years. i never thought it would but i just cant watch that crap anymore.

ullrich vs. armstrong was the last battle i looked forward to. yeah, both of them might have been a little "pushed", but whatever, that was nice to watch. i dont even care if they were doped or so, all of them were back then and are probably right now, but there are just no characters (besides lance) riding right now.

i agree with whoever up there said lance isnt doping.

i have two thoughts.

number one, exactly. he is more tested than any other athlete, probably in any sport, ever. the french show up to his house in the middle of the night demanding drug tests, which they arent even technically supposed to do, yet he complies anyway, and he has never failed.

and if, by some small chance, he is doping, he is still the greatest cyclist out there, because if he is, truly everyone in cycling is, and hes just the best of all the dopers.

as for who will win this year, id say its anyones game. lance certainly has a shot, he couldve won last year if contador wasnt the egomaniac he was.

contador, without having lance to compete with on his team also has a great shot.

as do many others. its only what? the 5th stage? the race is still very much anyones game, wait till we see who some of the top performers in the alps are.

Dick around at home, Dude got where he was at by riding 6 hours daily!!! The man lived cycling not to mention his comeback after cancer. Dropped weight and made himself an accomplished climber and proceed to dominate for years.

Yellow: Contador- hate to say it but I think it's true Green- Thor- Cav doesn't have a chance in coming back margin is like 60 points or somethingMountains- BassoWhite- Gerrans the kid who has it now- Andy Schleck isn't young enough for the jerseyTeam- Radioshack

Yeah, people don't realize his VO2 max is a fair bit higher than other people's, he also has massive lungs. To top it off, he has a retardedly high pain tolerance. Sure that lactic acid may burn, but if he can just stick it out(which he fucking does) he wins.

training all year to ride one race doesn't make you the worlds greatest cyclist. racing year round, in every discipline, and winning consistently, makes you the worlds greatest cyclist.

winning the hardest race in cycling, 7 times in a row makes you the greatest cyclist in the world.

You can't take away from Lance Armstrong, the guy is an incredible cyclist, and has never tested positive for any performance enhancing drugs or banned substances. Winning the Tour 7 times isn't easy. "dicking around all year" clearly shows your lack of knowledge for cycling. He also has to help out his own teammates like Levi or Andreas win different Tours like California, etc.

Except nobody win every race they enter, because they have teammates. Think about Tennis, Roger Federer is probably the best in the world, yet when it comes to the smaller tournaments he doesn't try his best because theyre not really important to him, it's all about the grand-slams. Look at Lance's career accomplishments and honestly tell me he's not the best.

Ok, so I ride DH and I like watching the Tour, but can someone explain the whole polka dot, green jersey etc?

I know the yellow is for previous stage winner.

Polka Dot - King Of the Mountains

Green - Sprinters Points

White - Young Rider (U-25 I believe)

Please Work....

That was a sick commercial. Oh and thanks for the jersey info...so King of the Mountains is who finishes first in Mountain stages or?

There are different categories of Climbs, for each category you get a certain amount of points for coming 1st, 2nd, 3rd. At the end, whoever has the most points is the KOM.

Lance has never had a victory in one of the other classic or grand tour. he doesn't have a single podium in the giro or the vuelta, because he doesn't enter them.

Merckx is, and always will be in all probability, the greatest cyclist of all time. behind him are Anquetil and Gimondi, and Hinault, and thats just grand tour riders, there are also riders who race most of the Classic one days every year. Then MAYBE comes armstrong.

Eddie has 11 grand tour wins. the most of all time. He raced in the olympics and won an world championship in the same year, before even becoming pro.

He raced year round. as soon as the classic and grand tour season ended, he raced track all winter. He broke the hour world record. he has over 500 pro cycling wins, and a fucking list of records he holds that nobody has come close to.

you can't honestly look at Lance's accomplishments, compare them to Merckx, and tell me lance is a better cyclist.

Yellow is actually for overall leader. It goes to whoever has the lowest time in the entire tour.
There is also the red number which goes to the rider who rode the most aggressively the day before and yellow numbers for the team that is in the lead.

biking is really sick, I just don't follow it too much. That nike commercial is sick

thats great bro but merckx doesnt even competitively cycle anymore

i wasnt saying armstrong is the greatest OF ALL TIME

rather ONE of the greatest cyclists, and in my opinion has never done performance enhancing drugs

your right about that sort of. If they take blood one night and the next morning and theres a way higher red blood cell count your caught

i wouldnt be too high on the "never used drug thingy". i mean, ALL/90% of the guys he totally killed (rumsas, basso, sastre, etc) are/were in the midst of some drug scandal, while his only real competitor (ullrich, not to mention i am/was a big fan) probably used blood doping.

either doping doesnt do shit or armstrong was doped, end of my conclusion.

ullrich was probably the most gifted (if you can say that in this sport) athlete from a technique/physical attributes-standpoint. and imo, its impossible to outperform a doped ullrich without doping.

I'd put him in the top 25 of all time.

but he definitely uses some sort of doping method, he has just managed to avoid detection. most all pros dope, its all about who gets caught and who doesnt.

also, even though she is a woman, and as such I am not inclined to compare her in this argument, fucking Marianne Vos is a tank. she races cross, track, and road, and podiums regularly in each discipline.

I think contador will be in yellow although I would hate to see it.

and lance did test positive to performance enhancing drugs a while back but it was just a saddle sore supplement that made it positive. he was fine

new special stage in the tour

Ulrich is not the most gifted physically, you're forgetting...Lance Armstrong.

If you read his book, you find out he has some pretty insane genetic gifts. One of which being a ridiculously high pain tolerance. You remember when he got testicular cancer? Well they took one of them out, and the next day they said you should probably go to a sperm bank in case you lose the other one. He went, THAT DAY and donated. If you know of any other cyclist with that high of a pain tolerance, I will suck your dick.

this is totally off topic but last year I was in barcelona and hungover stumbling out of my apartment on my way to the metro eating a ham and cheese baguette when I saw that the road was blocked. I got all pissed and was like what the fuck I need to cross this street (passeig de gracia). Then I saw it was the tour de france. so that was cool.

props to your bro thats incredible

but im pretty sure Lance is 39, so he can still be considered one of the greatest cyclists of all time

he lost it in the tour today hes 10+minutes behind, hell support levi

anyone but contador to win now, i dont think anyone likes him although hes a great climber

nah man the vuelta is later in the summer/early fall.
the tour de france went through barcelona july 9th and 10th last summer.

Today was like the only time Lance has fallen apart in the tour. Fucking craziness, three crashes in one stage! Sucks for him, unless something crazy happens you will not be seeing him in yellow at all, as he is gonna be a support rider for Leipheimer now.

I know it's too bad that it's happening because CVV got injured but i am sooo happy to see that ryder will finally be getting some more support from his team.

I would really like to see Andy Schleck win, or Ryder Hesjedal. Things will definately get interesting on tuesday!

ryder hesjedal and bradley wiggins ftw

i thought lance was gonna win his last tour, guess i was wrong

but as half canadian half british i am cheering for ryder or wiggins

truthfully, i wouldnt really mind anyone winning it, but contador

and i love mark cavendish hes got mad chirps and is a sick sprinter
