Torn UCL ligament

So way back in august I tore my UCL ligament in my thumb (Ulnar collateral ligament) and it still hasn't healed. I'm getting surgery in like a week to finally fix it. I was wondering if anyone who's in my position can tell me about the recovery time and stuff. The doc said it would be 5 moths until i can fully use it but i think thats bs considering its such a small ligament. Anyway if any of you have advice it'll be much appreciated! Thanks NS!

Tommy John surgery is to repair the UCL of elbow, not of the thumb. In the forearm, the terms medial and lateral are replaced with radial and ulnar because it's a pain in the ass to try to figure out which is which in anatomic position. So there are UCL's of the elbow, the wrist, the thumb, etc. etc.

OP - assuming he/she's a hand specialist - listen to your doc. Your recovery depends on a bunch of things (e.g. whether the insertion is avulsed) that nobody on the internet is gonna know

I had to play games with no thumb when I broke my wrist, and it's much easier than you think.

Also OP listen to the doc. 5 months is pretty expected with ligament injuries. They dont just heal right away, but you will probably be able to use it before 5 months. Just not full movement or strength.
