Torn Mcl

Around this time last year, I thought it would be a good idea to 3 over the terrain park fence. I over shot by quite a bit and my right leg was totally straight when i landed and i felt as if my whole knee was about to pop out. I was able to ski down the hill and call my parents who took me to emergency where they x-rayed my knee and said everything was fine and I might have sprayned it. About a week later i was back on skis and hit a rail and my knee felt like it was about to twist right off. Long story short, I was out almost all season last year and I did physio and bought a $2k knee brace. Physiotherapist said that i wouldn't need surgery and the knee brace would work fine. This year everything was going well until yesterday when I hit a down rail and landed with my right leg straight and popped it again. This was really discouraging because i had thought that my knee brace would work. When i went inside I guess my brace had kind of slipped down my leg not covering the right area which kind of explains it.

Anyone else do something similar?

all depends on the grade of a sprain. Grade 1/1+ just rest and strength quads and hamstrings. Grade 2/2+/3 (3 meaning a complete tear) lots of rest and rehab. Only time I would refer one of my athletes to a surgeon is if it was completely torn with possible meniscus damage. (MCL lays directly over and attached to the medial meniscus). The brace will help with preventing a valgus force opening the medial joint causing a stretch on the MCL.

What did you physio/ PT have you doing for exercises?

I feel for you man, but I noticed in your story you never mentioned getting an MRI. Most of the time X-rays don't tell you very much regarding the small details of ligament damage.
