Torn ALC/MCL rehab.

So about 5 1/2 months ago I fell while skiing which resulted in me partially tearing my ACL and MCL. Since then I have been training hard in the gym, having regular physio and been cycling loads.

I Started skiing about 2 weeks ago again as the docs said I should be all good by mid December. But I wasn't, everything was going well until I fell again and felt my knee pop and its been super painful ever since. I could hardly walk the first couple of days after. I haven't been back to hospital yet because I don't know if I can deal with the news that I may need surgery!!

I guess my knee was more screwed than Me and the Doctor thought and it was no where near strong enough to start skiing again so soon. As I've been talking to more people about it, I've realised it a pretty common ski injury.

So I wanted to put it out to you guys. If anyone has done the same thing and has got any decent exercises/skills/drills that will strengthen my knee up so I can get back on my skis ASAP it would be fucking awesome if you shared them to help a brother out!

Definitely have a doc check it out. ACLs don't normally heal on their own, so if it's torn, surgery is the best way to make it stable enough to ski on it. Even the best brace usually isn't enough. Here's hoping it's not torn. If you have torn it and you do get it surgically repaired, do your rehab faithfully & don't rush it back. Even if you strengthen everything around it, the ACL will take time to re-vascularize, so follow your doctor's orders. People can and do come back from torn ACLs. I had a gymnast score a perfect 10 on vault her senior year in college after 3 ACL surgeries.

Everyone knows NS is the place to go for top notch medical advice and diagnosis!

But I do know that NS is full of skiers how could have gone though the same injury and could give some advise.

Which we learned from doctors. A doctor will always have the best answer. It sounds like you injured yourself again so we can't help you.

What does your MRI look like? Until you show us that, we are takinjg shots in the dark.

My shot in the dary? Go skiing again immediatley. You wanna test it out as soon as possible.

Here's my story if it helps, tore my ACL 4 weeks ago (dislocated, popped/tore) then relocated, on crutches for a week. Went to two doctors the following 2 weeks and both diagnosed it as a sprained meniscus, after begging the doctor to get a MRI to see if I tore something I finally got a MRI done, not until last week did I find out I tore my ACL when I got my results. Saw an Orthopedic Surgeon the day after I got my results, I told him I wanted to ski and push my surgery to february nad based on my knee I guess it was reasonable to do that. I was molded a townsend brace for skiing. Today was my 3rd day skiing with a torn ACL, No big jumps, no rails, gets more tired and fatigued than my other knee and is a little swolen by the end of the day.
