Torn ACL?!?!

I crashed really hard yesterday in the woods and today I just got back from getting an MRI and my sports doctor told me the bad news, I have a torn ACL. Has anyone else had one of these and has any good advice for me? My doctor said that I am out for the season? How long was everyone else out? I guess the only thing good about this is that I now have a prescription for perks. Let me know!

Don't take what i say as a professional opinion,

1st off, ice it everyday,

after about a week it will stop hurting really badly,

then you ask yourself, is it worth it?

..... How bad does it slip, if you had an mri, then you can see the damage for yourself, if it;s completly torn in 1/2 it's not going to get better on it own....

if it is slipping out of joint easily then no you can not ski,

your other option is to get a knee brace, I have a CTI2 that prevents the tibia from moving froward and causing more damage,

you may have a long time to wait for surgery, and i don't know your specific details,

i personally have lived with it, for a few years and it doesn't bother me because im used to the pain, but...

More Details...

and ask your self is it worth it?

I skiid on mine for a whole season..I just had to ice it every day after skiing. Then I had surgery in April and rehabed all summer...I was skiing by December and competing moguls by Feb.

I tore my ACL last Feb. about halfway. and then this september i tore the rest of it. And i was able to do lacrosse camps all summer long, and after i tore it the second time, it took only about a week before i was able to do stuff (biking and stuff). I am able to ski this winter too. Just dont overdo it. if you can get a brace, itll make it feel more secure so you can ski and stuff without feeling totaly imbalanced.

i tore my ACL last super bowl sunday along with breaking my femur, and i can tell you that not having a good acl is a pain in the a$$, but i got me some 2nd opinons and a good knee brace and i'm skiing fine..... just a little cautious now. The brace also sometimes gives me a slight limp, but for the protection that it gives me, i dont mind.

yeah i tore mine completely and it was the worst pain i ever felt. it would slip out all the time and after awhile i was in so much pain i couldnt scream anymore. but i had surgery and rehab was a pain, but i was cleared after 5 months and now have a kick ass brace. but my new acl was said to never be as strong as the original

I tore my ACL this summer but just a little bit, unfortunatly I torn my PCL completly and don't have one right now, my LCL is stretched too much to be usefull anymore. I've been told that any skiing other than recreational is out of the picture. I can't ski a day without being in pain for the next 2 days and I have to wear a brace. I haven't had surgery because my doctors aren't really sure what to do. I was wondering if anyone has ever had an injury like this before and what they did about it, as well as how they are right now. Basically knee injuries suck ass and I would never wish it upon anyone.
