Torn abdominal muscle

i have just started training camp for a junior football team (under-23) and after our first contact practice i started getting this pain in my side. at first i thought it might be just a bruised rib or kidney, but it didnt really hurt to breath deeply like it would with bruised ribs, and i had no blood in my piss. i then thought i may have just strained a muscle, but the pain has not subsided since then.

i feel quite a bit of pain when im trying to get to sleep, i cant sleep directly on it, i hurts to roll over or sit up. any fast or sudden movements hurt, i can feel it when i rotate my trunk to a certain point either way... basically any time I'm using my core i can feel it, and the more quickly i move, the more it hurts....

The only thing i think this could be is a torn abdominal muscle. does anyone have any experience with a similar injury, and know any ways to treat it?

(p.s. i'm going to have the trainer look at it tonight.... i'd rather not tho because he has a tendancy of forcing players out of action for small injuries... and i don't want to sit)

Go see a doc. These guys are supposed to answer these kinda questions.

From my own experience, there's nothing to do against "torn" muscles. you just have to stopd extreme moves (so stop sport) until everything heals by itself

better to get checked out and get taken out for a while and letting whatever it is heal. better to do that then get even more hurt, more seriously and not being able to play again. injury is part of the sport, just face it you might be out for a while and it will be better for you in the long run, than playing if you weren't going to see the trainer

i got popped right above my hip flexer last game of my senior year in high school. thought i fucked up a rib or something but it ended up being a muscle. hurt like a mother fucker and took me outa the game.....couldn't laugh or breath for like four days.....anyways it wasnt a abdominal muslce but it was close and all i could really do is just wait it out.....if u can play on it then go for it but if u fucked ur ribs up it could seriously mess u up. anyways get it checked out and dont listen to some kids on this site that dont know what their talking about. the trainer will let u play if u can, its not worth fucking ur body up over though. good luck .

injuries suck.... i missed 2 football seasons and 1 ski season because of a torn ACL in my knee and a torn AC in my shoulder (the only 2 injuries i've ever suffered which have caused me to sit out)

from what i've read about abdominal strains online sofar is that a grade 1 strain can easily turn into a grade 2 strain, which can easily turn into a grade 3 strain if you continue activity... i'd rather not sit out 3 weeks and wait for this bullshit injury to heal but it looks like i might have to

I had something similar when I was splitting wood, and I just layed down, and put this stuff called athletic recovery oil on my stomach. You can get it at a drug store i think, and at places like vitamin world, and it really helped. It was designed to quickly repair torn and strained muscles, and it definately works. I used it a lot when I played soccer, and it works every time.

i'm trying to help you out you dont have to be a dick about it. my brother knows this from past injurys when he wasent supposed to ski but he did and now he cant ski anymore, so stop thinking you're superman and say you're gonna play when you might have a serious injury you prick.

What you describe as your pain may be your appendix and not a torn muscle. How do I know this? Because I had the same exact pain two weeks ago and had to have mine taken out. They said I had aabout 48 hrs before mine burst...which you do not want happening since its all toxic. Get to a doctor pronto to see whats going. Hope you feel better!

i have a torn abdominal muscle.. its when the muslcle detaches from the rib, and usually happens from over working it. you can actually see mine, it kind of bulges. the only way for it to heal is to not work it out and rest it. i tried that but it takes wayyy to long, so mine will probably fucked up forever

i didn't mean to come off as a prick sarcasm doesnt show well on the internet, i appreciate everyones comments and infact i had given you +10 karma for your response.... but now i may only make that +9

:p

+10 Karma as Dylan is probably right. Take this advice seriously bro, because you being a complete dick now is going to make it that much easier to laugh at you when you do go to the doc and find out its a ruptured spleen or an enlarged spleen due to rupture (which it very well could be when playing any kind of contact sport). So, to the OP, don't be a dick yourself and quit acting like your this dumb ass tough football player and get yourself checked out yo...

i suspected it might be my appendix or spleen but when i looked up the symptoms none of them matched so i threw that theory out the window... i thought my appendix had burst once when i was punched in the stomach during a football game, it was fucking scary and the trainer was freaking out and wanted to rush me to the hospital... turns out it wasn't anything serious....

and for the record i AM getting this looked at tonight.... i'm not here for an official diagnosis i'm here to see if anyone has experienced anything similar... thanks for the input

for those who care, i had the trainer look at it and he made sure all of my ribs were in place and diagnosed it as a "strained oblique". he taped me up with some 16$/roll tape which held my side together for practice.... its real sore today but icing it seems to help
