Top Affordable Skis this Year

I haven't been in the loop lately as far as the ski market goes, I haven't needed a new pair for a few years now. Everybody knows magazine reviews are about as useful as tits on a nun so I'm wondering what everybody thinks the best skis are for under 400 dollars.
 
evogear.com has some nice deals on used/demo/previous season skis in the outlet section. Line Invaders and Anthems I think are both under $400 USD. Surface Watch Lifes might be around $400, I think Bluehouse might too, they have sales pretty often too.
 
Category wise I just meant all mountain twin, which is what I think most of the skis marketed to the lower budget skier fall under. The skis actually aren't for me. They're for my cousin, a big guy around 6'5" and 190 lbs. Addicts seem like a good choice but he isn't super into park so I don't really know if a true twin is right for him. I was thinking something more akin to the old Public Enemies.
 
for a guy of that stature i would suggest something a little burlier, such as the Line Prophets or the Blends... PEs or the extremes would be a pretty good option too, i would look for something with a pretty stiff flex
 
What does affordable mean to you? Anything can be affordable if the quality of the product meets your standards. IMO makes a list of skis and then check the prices on your choices. If you find yourself looking at "expensive" skis then consider the fact that if you want something great, you will have to drop a few extra dollars. Trying to get deals and last year's gear is cool but if you're interested in something really good that will last, save that extra 100$-200$ and buy some 09 skis that will hold up.

Here's a list of skis I would truly consider buying (park oriented)

- Moment Reno Jibs

-Volkl Walls

- Atomic Urban Punx and Punx

- Armada AR6s and maybe the ARV ( if you aren't solely in the park)

I left out a lot of companies. Including the ns favorites: K2(Line) and Salomon. If you have a good feeling about these companies then go for it but I really don't and I keep hearing about defects and chippings and etc.

i got a really good deal on invaders, but i dont know how they ski...i know they have the butterzone and are pretty...does that make them no good for bigger jumps?
 
DOES ANYBODY know anything about the rossignol sprayer skis?

i can get em for $150 which includes the ski itself + the integrated binding system that comes with it...brand new at my ski shop cuz of winter savings discount...it used to be 349.99 and retail is 625...

bit i want to know if they are any good

i currently have 2004 public enemies which i bought for $200 used
 
Bluehouse.. Boone.. I've even seen some killer deals for ninthward in shops (not that it matters, because they still blow..)
 
Right now it seems to me that the most affordable skis with the best reputation are the Fischer Addict Pros and the Volkl Wall. I haven't heard much about the Wall except that its supposed to be like the Karmas, which I ride on now. Whats the word on the all mountain abilites of these two skis? Are they closer to the park or the all mountain end of the spectrum in your opinion?
 
Both the Volkl Wall and the Fischer Addict are stiff symmetrical PARK skis.. They both handle all mountain well due to their relatively solid flex but they are still park skis.. If your cousin is looking for an all mountain ski, then go for one of those. Volkl Bridges come in a 185 and they might be more suitable. Rossi Scratch Brigade/S5s also come in a long length.. Bear in mind hes 6'5 and 190 hes gonna want a long ski for any pow skiing..
 
Walls are meant to be center mounted which is very park based. They would not make a good all mountain ski compared to something mounted 2-5 cms back.
