Too many wallride/trannys

PSA: They are not cool anymore... They used to be cool, until about 3/4 of urban in WE and the 86 were tranny or wallride shots. Not to mention the Education of Style. Seriously, Leigh Powis and Cam reilly should start hitting goddamn down rails again! Like the good old days!!!

Wall rides are pretty sick and one of the hardest urban shots to get, but I kinda have to agree. When I watch them in nearly all edits/movies, they lose their thunder a bit.

I think you'll develop a much better appreciation for tranny finders once you understand a little more about the intricacies of the art. Start here for some more information:

I don't mind wall rides if they actually do something on them instead of just bonking off the damn thing. As far as trannys go ......I feel indifferent on that

ya i'm with you on this one unfortunately :(
they definitely require more skill and precision than the average ride-out, but from what i've seen of this year's movies you're right that it has gotten a bit repetitive, and the average viewer usually doesn't even 'get it' at all. not like i really care what the average viewer thinks, but it was kind of annoying when i had to explain to my 58yr old Dad why landing at strange/unnatural angles seemed to be the hot thing to do these days in my ski movies
surprisingly, gaper though he may be, even with an untrained eye he mentioned that powis and flynn ("the goon with tats on his face" and "abe lincoln", lol) did it best and made it look most fluid... pretty spot-on for an oldschooler

This thread blows. Kids will always find something to bitch about. Too many down rails not enough other shots. Too many wall rides. Too man slow spins they need to throw a lot more double corks. I hate that it's all double and triple corks I wish they would throw some slower spins.

No jokes to be made. OP is legit retarded. Wallrides and trannys in an urban setting are sketch. Did you see some of the wrecks in Sunny? If you dont catch that tiny tranny, youre done. I think that people think shit is so easy because they see someone stomp it and dont see them fall. It makes a huge difference. There was some fucked up gnarly trannys/gaps/walls that they just didnt fall on and got lucky. But, if they did fall, dude. You guys have no fucking idea.

haha, that's interesting you associated my calling you out with agreeing with the OP.

anyways, why didn't you just respond with the body of this explanation in the first place? you have a legit argument.

Didn't want to waste my time, but i decided to state the point. It wasn't suppose to be directed at you.

I think atleast in the eighty six, they kindof overkilled it with trannies. just a little too much, but the movie was sick nevertheless and i dont really mind.

Just like anything, it needs moderation. I agree, all of it is so much sketchier and a lot more difficult. However, when its only that, i can get repetitive. I prefer this type of urban, but not when its the only thing i see. just like i don't like only seeing down rails or cork 9s, i prefer variety.

Op is a fucking idiot

1. Complains about how stale and played out wallrides are

2. Suggests hitting down rails instead.......

real fucking smart bud

ppl seem to be missing the point. Its not that I dont appreciate a good wall ride or tranny, there were plenty of amazing tranny shots by guys like leigh and shea this year, but I also know that when 3/4 urban shots in a movie are tranny shots, it just gets boring and less impressive.

The reason i said I want Cam and Leigh to hit a down rail is because they didnt have well rounded footage at all this season. I personally like skiers like parker white, mike heituk, sammy carlson, who can slay anywhere, and that takes their seg to the next level.

In the future i think wallrides and trannys will def be around but they wont make up 4/5 urban shots in the big movies.

A sick downrail super pressed onto the tails is WAY cooler then some stupid jump to wall tranny, a 5 year old could do that. You ever jump into a half pipe? same shit.

Like any other trick or style, I like them in moderation, done well, and with some sort of creativity; Leigh's part in WE had a lot of creativity and I like that.

But with any trend in skiing, when there's too much of it, it becomes boring to watch. The 86 this year had too many shots of front 270s out of closeout rails and too many wall ride shots for my taste. I personally felt that Weight was a much better balance of urban riding and for that reason I enjoyed it more. The same can be said about Leigh's segment from WE and his Segment from Grand Bizarre, though it could be possible that he simply didn't get around to hitting any rails because of the abrupt end to his season.

Regardless, it's not the tranny finding and wallrides that are the problem, it's the lack of variety that bothers some people.

Precisely this. Sure, I love a great tranny-find, but it disappointed me this year when i watched the Eighty Six and Cam Riley didn't hit any ridiculously tech rails. As a matter of fact, there wasn't even a double kink in his segment, and only one quad kink in the entire movie. I want a mix

yeah... I noticed this as well. not one to say skiing should be one way or another but movies on the other are good when there's variety . my 2cents

I think what he was trying to get at is to add more variety to their segments. downrails being just the first thing that came to his mind.

ha shits funny, but kid has a point, WE and 86 , had soooo much of that shiit. and i not saying it aint cool or insane or crazy or fun to watch ( to a certain point ) but when 3/4 of both vidoes basically showing the same thing over and over .

Yo die in hell man.... You one of the kids how like too see triple and some future shit like that

How about you just do what the fuck you want, and not tell other people what to do.

You can approve/disapprove of things in skiing, thats fine. There's plenty of shit in skiing I hate. But I don't go around telling people not to do it. It's what they want to do. If I want to hit a huge wallride, I'm going to, and if you don't want me to, I don't care.

welcome to skiing. steal something from snowboarding, run it into the ground until it's annoying to watch. thems the breaks.

Then why didn't you come out with a segment full of huge wallrides this year, if they're so damn easy?

Why am I even reading this thread

People are also used to having a breck lip that shoots them just about perfectly in the nice tranny. With an urban wallride it's literally shit you pants worthy.

not reading this thread but OP is a retard.

I never like to judge people's skiing ability over the internet but I have the feeling that OP sucks too bad to realize just how difficult the stuff these pros are doing actually are.

I agree with OP that variety must ensue in skiing, however Leigh Powis has the right to do whatever the fuck he wants. He tranny finds every single shot in his seg and the seg drops jaws. He brings everything to a new level
