this may make you uncomfortable. Vice obviously has their own story lines planned out to create more drama and the focus that is put on concussions/ injuries here is disheartening..


 
I just found it way too short. They did not quite get to the point of the documentary, but they did show how difficult and gratifying to express yourself as a snowboard chick,
 
Watching that girl hit her head made me uncomfortable. I had a TBI and obviously head injuries are serious but the first episode focused on them and I wasn't into it

Those girls kill it though
 
Pretty entertaining. Not hating on chicks but they fall SO hard.

I don't think this would ever happen in skiing but I also think that chicks doing the ghetto thing can come off fake and forced.
 
Vice dabbling in snowsports at all is a little weird and I'm sure a few things get misconstrued from what dangy/fancy/crew intended.

They might not have all the skill in the world but they put in a lot of work for what they love and that's respectable on any level.

Gotta give it up to girls (or anyone for that matter) who find others interested in the same things and push themselves and what they love doing.
 
Too hard acts like people hate on them because of their partying but it's actually because they're a bunch of girls who aren't good enough to ride urban trying to ride urban.

And they probably shouldn't either. When people ride above their ability level it scares the shit out of me, and with 6 concussions you could probably conclude that she is often riding above her ability level.

Its awesome that they are trying to push the sport for women, but this just seems ridiculous.

Stept rides above their ability level all the time. Hell, all urban skiers ride above their ability level! if you are bailing more than 1/4 of the time you are above your ability level.

But guess what? thats how you get better you numbskull. If you never pushed outside your ability level you would never raise your ability.

Your wrong, your riding above you skill level if your getting 2-3 concussions a season.

It takes a certain amount of skill to be able to move out of your comfort zone WITHOUT banging your head down a flight of stairs. Im not saying the stept crew don't occasionally take a hit to the dome, but their not incapacitating themselves on simple downrails either.

why do some of you have an issue with women sending it on gnarly urban features? okay, we want womens skiing/snowboarding to progress, but the minute they start actually doing gnarly shit, its "woah, hey now ladies, lets rethink what we are doing here." what the fuck do you people want on this website?

As far as the VICE story goes, they did a good job with the Pep stuff but I think they should steer clear of skiing and snowboarding if this is the fucking dreck they're going to put out. It just comes off as a sensationalized "look how reckless and dangerous these girls are, all the do is get hurt and endanger themselves" type of news piece, while completely disregarding the mind-numbing content we see every year. Obviously urban riding has its dangers, and that's what they were getting at, but its not just about hitting your fucking head on a handrail or something. there is a lot of work that goes into getting these shots, and VICE should focus on that. None of this fear-mongering bullshit we all love to partake in.

A few times they had some articles on topics that genuinely interest me. Hell, anything drug war related is my jam. But I just can't read them generally. I really can't call it journalism.
 
it gets boring watching people 50-50 everything. also this shit isn't even close to gnarly by level 1/ stept / 4bi9 standards
 
Ever since Vice's video on the olympics i really haven't paid attention to anything they've put out sports wise. I mean, they completely butchered that video.
 
The root problem is that these girls were sponsored at an early age for being able to 360 and 50/50, so they now think they're pros who need to hit urban to get shots. As someone said, anyone riding way above their ability level is never easy to watch. They're attempting to ride urban features well before they've even got the hang of park riding. Of course they're going to get hurt. It takes years of practice to learn how to fall safely and to avoid injury.

That said, they're undeniably the most badass hoes around since they don't give a fuck and just send it anyway! Plus when they become mentally handicapped from eating shit so much, they can always baby trap some poor dude later and live a comfortable life. I doubt college will help if she gets migraines every time she reads...
