Tonight Show - leno vs. conan

Conan is popular with the same age group and gender that is on this site. It is not Leno v Conan, it is NBC v them both. NBC fucked up big time and made Leno leave when he did not want to, to prevent him from going to a different network when Conan took over his show. I think Conan should leave and go to another network and Leno should retire or go to another network and fuck over NBC.

I think Conan could be successful with a weekly program on HBO, kind of like Bill Maher. But who knows, its kind of funny people feel bad for Conan. The guy is a millionaire who has done what he loves his whole life.

This was an editorial that he wrote in the NY Post last week:

People of Earth:

In the last few days, I’ve been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I’ve been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I’ve been absurdly lucky. That said, I’ve been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over “The Tonight Show” in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night, and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004, I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my “Tonight Show” in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime time by making a change in their long-established late-night schedule.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move “The Tonight Show” to 12:05 to accommodate “The Jay Leno Show” at 11:35. For 60 years, “The Tonight Show” has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying “The Tonight Show” into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. “The Tonight Show” at 12:05 simply isn’t “The Tonight Show.” Also, if I accept this move, I will be knocking the “Late Night” show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of “The Tonight Show.” But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet, a time slot doesn’t matter. But with “The Tonight Show,” I believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network, but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

even with all of this happening he still doesnt take himself too seriously. makes me like him even more. he should just go back to the Late Nite with Conan show.
 
Fuck Jay Leno and his chin. Conan is actually funny. The only part I enjoy about Leno is the part when he is out on the street or whatever, and even then the comedy stems from the stupidity of strangers and not from Leno.
Conan is the man. He is a writer and he has a lot more comedic talent than Leno, at least in my opinion. I hope NBC gets their thumb out of their ass and realizes that they can't just fuck over Conan because Leno is tanking at 10 o'clock.
 
i have and always will love conan, and if they really get rid of him i will be truly upset, they should cancel leno and just have one tonight show, then conan would get the viewers, and we would all be happy
 
Conan just isnt a 1130 time slot guy he isnt attracting viewer him at 1130 was an epic fail. Hes funny but his comedy is suited to younger people up later and leno is suited to older people who dont want to stay up as late.
 
I like Leno more. But both Leno and Conan are in a WTF position here. It's not really Leno vs. Conan it's Leno/Conan vs. NBC
 
NBC fucked up big time. they brought conan in because they thought he was going to be a late night, ratings-gathering monster. they moved leno when he was doing incredible only to hack leno's ratings and have conan blow major cock. now in this desperation, they're ridding of conan (dont get how this is a shock to everyone) and leno is such a loyal douche, he's willing to take it back after being treated unfairly by his network. oh heres the icing on this fucked up cake, conan OWNS the name The Tonight Show for another 4 years. good job NBC. you just lost one of the greatest shows to ever air because of a stupid gamble to beat out letterman.
 
Jay Leno needs to be back on the Tonight Show and Conan needs to be given a settlement and kicked the fuck out. Conan has never been funny, just like Mad TV and Scrubs have never been funny, but that's two more separate call-outs. Go back to the East coast with the other goomba's, Conan. We don't want you.
 
Id say Conan keeps his slot and leno fucks off- I personally never got Leno but Conan was mildly funny-
