good thread. don't have the video right now but the first ones that came to mind are pep's in 1242 and dana flahr's where he went big on a front flip and tomahawked so hard his jacket was whipped completely off

all i know is that they are painful... very painful...

Does it actually hurt? or does it just shake you up a bit? because i know falling in powder in general doesnt hurt, but can make you feel disoriented or dizzy.

Yeah it really fucks up your back/neck especially if you're going really fast

I remember i went to my local ski swap and while I was there some guy was showing "the narliest tomahawk" haha the guys meant to tomahawk and he had like more than 20 rotations. It was crazy. It was all in pow.

no you don't, tomahawking feels shitty because you are totally out of control and can't do much if youre flying at a rock or over a cliff, and there's a really good chance youll at least tweak your back/neck

yeah sure, ive had a couple where there were no bad impacts and i just came to a stop like "WOAH" but that's only when you get really lucky

Is there a proper way to "tomahawk" without fucking up your back and neck? I know you probably have little to no control of your body when you are doing it but is there still some thing sthat we can control to miniomize injury?

well, if im not wearing a helmet and have the awareness, i try to get my hands over my head to protect it and maybe my neck too a little bit

if you can at all, your priority is stopping/getting your feet in front of you/self arresting. if you watch people doing it sometimes you might notice them slowing down the roll slowly but "surely" by making more of an impact each time and slowing down the roll, for instance if i'm flipping backwards you might notice i start to hit and slide with my back incrementally more each revolution, and hopefully soon get my feet in front of me and self arrest

..but tomahawks usually happen cause youre hauling ass down something really steep and youre just cartwheeling out of control. so id say in a true tomahawk the whole point is there's nothing you can do and youre at the mercy of centrifugal force and gravity for at least a good stretch

I tomahawked in a really steep forest. Luckly, I fell in a line where there were no trees.

Its pretty scarry not knowing what is going to happen. You just fight to catch something.
