I don't know if this is a re-post or not but Tom Wallisch is basically the Michael Jordan of freeskiing and I know some people are going to hate on me for making the comparison between a main-stream sport, athlete to Tom but with the new FT TWalls this year and how thats the go to park boot when your showing someone a ski boot, like Jordan's for a basketball shoe. Also both their effortless style (yes basketball players can have style too) and you can't tell me that has never crossed your mind. I just want to hear what park or big mountain skier is the closest to our Michael Jordan.
 
This is possibly the stupidest and most ignorant thread I've ever seen on ns. OP has to be less than 10 years old.
 
If you're equating basketball to skiing and the stars that have risen from it the answer to your question is a resounding no.

Sammy Carlson is Lebron James. Won his first X games before he graduated high school, Lebron went straight to the NBA. I hate comparing these 2 but it's true.

Except tom tears his acl and skis the rest of the season and Lebron gets carried off every time he gets a cramp.
 
I dont think anyone is at MJ status, Except for guys like JP Auclair, Mike Douglas, Candide Thovex, Tanner Hall or Even Jon Olsson. These guys have really taken over some aspects of the sport, and really made an impact on how we ski. Only time will tell for Mr Wallisch. Give it a few more years, Im sure he will start some insane ski company that will blow up and rule the park ski market.

Look at skateboading there are so many legendary guys that are just taking over the sport.

tom wallisch has the highest ski slopestyle score ever so its obvious he is a ski legend, maybe not MJ but pretty close
 
I'm a hoops fanatic so I had to put my two cents in:

If there is an MJ of freeskiing it has to be Tanner. THall and MJ took their respective sports to places neither had been before them and they are both remembered as winners and the undisputed alpha dogs of their sports for long periods of time. Tanner had 7 Xgames gold medals at a time when the Xgames were basically the only way for park skiing to be seen by a national audience. 4 straight golds in slope from 2001-2004 and then 3 straight in pipe from 06-08 with 3 silvers in pipe and 1 in slope in the other years he didn't win. Founded and owns a ski company much like MJ owned the Washington Wizards and now the Charlotte Hornets.

I love Wallisch but he hasn't always delivered competition wise which all of us expect. Obviously the ACL tear probably cost him an olympic slot and a potential medal. However, from an aesthetic perspective he is the best and smoothest park skier I've ever watched hands down. I'll always be able to picture certain shots of Tom Wallisch skiing park, more so than Tanner Hall.

But Tanner Hall is the newschool ski equivalence to Michael Jordan

No no no, one of the best basketball*** players of all time.. he was average at baseball. Literally the only reason he got signed with the Barons/White Sox was because he was MJ. MJ = packed house every home game ($$$$).
 
the whole anology of trying to compare a team based athelete to an individuial sport like skiing is gonna be flawed

mj wasn't the goat because of being 1 dimensional

he didn't just win scoring titles he de'd up and win that title too

there are 6 banners hanging because he was the complete package

and forced others around him to be better and believe in their ability to win as a team

that and the zen master who tied it all togather

now unless mj somehow decides to become basketballs social medias trainwreck of retardation the t hall comparison is lacking

it'll be a while 4 tanner is hof material or anyone creates a

"greatest there was greatest there will be"

statue of t- hizo or waldo any time soon.

shane was the closest to being the complete package as far as oustside the sport name recognition, a class act ambassador of the sport,

and all around skills.

Sry OP, but you're wrong. I see what you're saying about the shoes/boot connection and Tom is a great skier...but Candide is light yrs ahead of everyone just like Jordan was during his time in the NBA (minus playing for the Wizards)
