Tokina 11-16

so newschoolers i need your help... i am either going to get the Tokina 11-16mm or the Sigma 10-22mm. I'm good on money right now so basically i am asking you which one is better or if you have any other suggestions for wide lenses.

Personally ive never tried either but I know tons of people on NS speak very highly of the Tokina 11-16

I would totally go for the Tokina.

The sigma is a good lens, but not a great lens. It has pretty good contrast and color rendition, but it's less sharp, it has some super ugly bokeh, and the distortion is very complex (impossible to correct) and can be super ugly. I've seen images where a ski is in the corner and it appears to be a foot longer than it is. It seems to me like Sigma designed their lens to pull some extra wide towards the edges by severely distorting them. It's not very apparent in landscapes, but can be super apparent in other places, especially skiing.

Here's what I'm talking about:

I know some people hate Ken's reviews, but when you are comparing objective information (in this case, sample shots), it's very useful.

Besides that, they feel a lot cheaper than the Tokina.

I needed a super wide quick, and I bought the Tokina despite my general dislike of 3rd party glass. Tokina has recently been making me re-evaluate that opinion.

Are you fucking kidding me? I mean I'm notorious for being a dick, but I wouldn't even stoop that low.

Also - I agree with everything Twoods said, I had the 10-20 and the distortion was too complex to fix, but most people wont even notice it. I (regretfully?) opted for the Tokina 12-24 though.

and if it really isn't an issue, go with the nikon/canon.

OP why did you choose those two lenses, they are two very different lenses..

they're the only two wide third party lenses that my local camera/film shop has right now and even though money isnt an issue i don't really want to spend the big bucks for canon lens

I'm pretty sure everything is sold for a reason... the fact that I can buy things with money but cannot with buy things with a lens is basically what's driving me to sell mine. You'd love for me to be selling it because it's a garbage lens, but it plain and simple is not.

yes I would love it? I couldn't care less actually. All I was saying is that the Tokina is better, sorry to drag you and your sale into it

as far as the lenses go, there is no comparison between the two....

it's fine. I understand too, but I'm not trying to turn M&A into a BST thread. I wouldn't normally post sales in it except that this one is blatantly relevant, so I might as well.
