ive been surprised lately at how good of music some high schoolers listen to.

these younger members obviously listen to some whack ass shit, but they kick to some decent shit. am i way off by saying this?

Im a Senior and Id say I listen to pretty good tunes. Non of that lil wayne rap bull shit is in my i-tunes. Im all about WU-Tang, Gang Starr, All classic rock artists, Grouch and Eligh, house music, etc......X2000..

i got a good case of douche chills reading the post. so basically your contradicting yourself. then you saying that you listen to almost the exact same shit all the other kids on here listen to.

im really not that old but i remember a time when you found out about bands from reading the linear notes from the cd or on show flyers.another way i found out about bands was looking at record lable catalogs thats came in cds.

the internet is convienacnt for music but at the same time i wish it was the same as when i was younger.

yo im confused and may be taking this the wrong way but...lil wayne sucks nuts dude fuck- that music is garbage that is not rap or hip hop that is dog shit

i think this would be the thread to announce me reaching 1000 songs in my iTunes library tonight. I'm 16. fucking rights.

i graduated in 2004...yeah I started to branch out in terms of music when I got my brother to download off kazaa and burn me a cd. that was grade 11

haha go easy on him. why when I was 16 I had elton john's greatest hits, an oasis cd, and the top 40 radio station.

this. most of his shit is auto tuned to. even tho im not near 21 yet, i find it kinda hard to find good rap, techno, dubstep, and other genres like that. but most of the kids at my school listen to all the music everyone else is listening to. and almost none of my friends listen to my types of music. so i think i would kinda have to disagree with you.

See im in the same boat as you but all my friends, who arent like everyone at my school, listen to the same type of music as me. Must have to do with smoking weed i guess haha. Stoners love their music. (good music). When Im baked I hate listening to shitty ass rapers, it tweaks me out for some reason i guess.

If anyone needs new shit to bang, just PM me with a genre or what your looking for and I'll hook it up. I work at a radio station so you know it's legit.

once you hit 5000 then well talk. my friend has 10k but that doesnt really count cause that includes a TON of music he doesnt actually listen to

Ah, I remember back when I was 13 I bought my first Guns N Roses cd against my parents better judgement. It was their Greatest Hits cd, and I was fucking blown away. I promptly bought Appetite soon after that and a few AC/DC cds. Then I got a guitar for christmas. Man those were the days.

The 90's were great for rock. Gin blossoms, come on now. I always go to AOL music and hit 90's alternative at work.

I remember when I found artist by mix punk cds like the warped tour cd's and I cant remember the rest but i had some SICK ones

Gay or not I don't give a fuck, I sing this song in my head almost every first ski day of the season. Skiing just feels like flying, it fits so well.

I got to see rage followed by metallica at the infamous woodstock 99, holy fucking good times.

I think my first cd was Ministry : Land of Rape and Honey.

I'm 18. The first album I ever bought was RHCP: By the Way, followed by the Clash's London Calling, 25th anniversary edition, followed by Pink Floyd's Echoes.
There's a TON of high school kids who actually appreciate music, but often they don't run in the same crowds as people from the skiing world - they're in the music world instead. However, I still think that there's a ton of people my age who know jack shit about music, and are in serious need of an education concerning their roots and the future of music.
However, I appreciate that you noticed that some of us have some amount of good taste.
Right now some favorite albums include:
De-Loused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta. The Incident by Porcupine Tree.Lightbulb Sun by Porcupine Tree.Madman Across the Water by Elton John. The First Days of Spring by Noah and the Whale.Obscured by Clouds by Pink Floyd.Black Clouds and Silver Linings by Dream Theatre.
I recommend any and all of the above.

I listen to Indy/Post Rock mostly. But I have all of Aesop Rock, Immortal Technique, and The Roots albums. I guess that's the only Rap/Hip-Hop I have. Aesop Rock is awesome, if you haven't ever heard of him.

I'm a senior in my school, and it seems like there is only a handful of people who don't listen to Mainstream music such as Lil Wayne etc.

I used to love Wu, now its so stereotypical of highschoolers that i wont listen to it.

Raekwon, Ghost, Inspectah by themselves is a different story however.

Im 21, this is the kinda shit I pump to

just cause we are in high school doesnt mean we dont listen to good music. I get lots of new artists from new schoolers.

this.If was hard to find good music.
Now a days, Pandora, iTunes, Genius, Youtube, etc, its so easy to find different types/artist that you like that are not main stream

freestyled used loosely here...

its not like he doesn't go back and say a line over, when it sounds like shit.

while i agree wu tang is played out. you refuse to listen to arguably on of the top 5 hip hop albums of all time because highschoolers listen to it?

Not really. Music should be an investment of time - a lot of artists take years to make a good album, while he just pumps out crap whenever he feels like it and makes huge money because his voice is whack and kids love it and his rhymes suck and he has half-decent instrumentals that I guarantee you he doesn't write.
I don't understand how he's successful, because none of his music actually says anything. I've never heard a lil' wayne song that actually expresses something meaningful or makes you think. Plus the musicality of it just straight up sucks. Rap is in part hugely about lyricism, and lil wayne is really not a talented lyricist.
On top of that, its not music that's made to really be listened to. You don't take a lil' wayne album and sit down for an hour to listen to the whole thing and catch the depth of it and the different levels and parts of production. Its background music, which already demeans its quality. You can listen to it on a pair of ipod headphones or a well set up 5.1 surround sound system, and not much will change.
Freestyles are sweet, but they're still just freestyles.

all the people arguing over whats better is an idiot. music is fucking subjective. therefore, what one person likes isnt necessarily what the next person will like. to say one is better than the other is retarded. (of course you can make the whole musically talented arguement, but fuck that, because if the most talented musician in the world doesnt make music i like to listen to, i'm not going to listen to it).

i like top 40.

i like some hip hop

i like some accoustic

i like something from almost every genre.

i dont like you.
