My mtn has gotten bad about this the past couple of years. Anyone else agree?

I don't get it...I see nothing wrong with the lip. The point of the "this is not a jump" thing is because gapers side jump off lips thinking they're "jumps".

it's actually a bit kicky

but yeh nothing really wrong with it if anything that looks like a really fun setup

There is no point of setting up a hand rail lips for a flat rail. Its pointless and makes it way less fun to hit. Snowboarders love it of course.

Yeah, unfortunately it all depends on 2 things...1 if the majority of the park crew skis or snowboards and 2 if the majority of the people who hit the park skis or snowboards. For example, my home mountain is park skier heavy and most of the park crew skis, therefore we generally build things that are more fun to hit on skis, so we rarely make urban lips to flat bars, however places like Mount Snow and Killington are snowboarder heavy and most of the park crew snowboards so they build things like this. Also, if there's a split (like a skier heavy mountain with a snowboard heavy park crew...which is kinda rare) the tie always goes to park crew...most crews build things they would like to hit since, well, they hit it almost every day.

Rails are more fun and legit setup like that. Sack up and learn how to hit those well then they will be fun.

Did I say never...no...I said usually...actually we rarely build flat rails to be honest. And the reason we usually don't build urban lips onto flat rails is because when we do some dumbass tries to ride on to it (usually on a snowboard) straight on and rips half their base off.

And you, honestly, are an asshole.

Sorry but you're implying that flat rails with urban style lips on aren't fun for skiers. If snowboarders try and ride on to the rail straight that sucks for them

I prefer hitting stuff from the side, the way I see it, there is greater chance of catching if you go onto an urban style handrail with your legs on either side, and ride on just isn't fun. just my 2 cents

I have no idea of what u are talking there. Thats a normal lip for a straight rail, handrail lips are called side lips.

What do you define as a handrail lip? And how should the lip be there then?

That feature right there actually looks more fun to hit urban on than a normal flat rail. If your park has quite a few flat rails there is nothing wrong with switching it up like that. Not to mention on a feature like that it will be much easier to front swap it urban on since you can set your edge a lot easier coming from the side.

Only real downside to that feature it would be terrifying to 270 onto, def out of my league. Also you completely misinterpreted that photo, it was to say gapers shouldn't use the lip of rails as jumps.

My home mountain (Greek Peak) used to put the lip all the way onto the rail and over it. They thought it was dangerous to leave a gap before the rail. IMO it ended up with a bunch of people trying it that shouldn't have getting broken off.

ride on lips are useless for me unless it is a big up box, which i still will come slightly from the side if im gripping for a frontside spin

It doesnt matter for rails, you get better if you are a skiier hitting snowboarding friendly features or a snowboarder hitting skiier friendly features.

Off holidays, we redo the lips every friday evening. On holidays, every evening. These kidos and their parents are destroyers.

At first I wanted to reply and tell the OP he's an idiot for misunderstanding the point of that meme, that there's absolutely nothing wrong with that lip, that he's either a bitch or an idiot for saying so, that the subject of the meme is gapers side-hitting jumps, but even so nobody should have a problem with that, and if someone wants to side-air the lip, why should I give a shit, and if you think they're "ruining the lip" then you're a little bitch... but then I thought, what's the point?

I just read this entire thread and I'm still not sure whether the complaint is that the lip is too big or if it's too small.

Regardless, that rail looks really fun.
