Tips on improving lighting

Im just wondering if anyone has a clue of how this lighting was achieved? Im specifically focused on the skier and how there seems to have more light on him than the rest of the picture. Is it just the way the picture was taken (like the aperture setting etc) or was it just the natural light, flash or some other type of lighting? Any help would be great thanks!

They used a flash to light the skier. If not it would be a silhouette because the main light source is the sun behind him

U think just the flash from the camera? or like an external bigger flash? thanks for the reply

He probably used a speedlight aimed directly at the skier. He could've used a set of strobes but that would be highly unlikely and unnecessary because he has no power source and is in the middle of a mountain
