Yo M&A,

Just curious if you guys have any tips to not get distracted whilst editing, lately I am seeming to always go back to chrome every couple of minutes and its really killing me.

Stupid question, I know, I just havent been digging editing lately.

When I really have trouble breaking the internet during render cycle I use an hour glass. do nothing but edit till it runs out, usually I'll look over and it's been done for awhile. Also tv noise in the background can help

I've disconnected my internet once or twice in a grind.

If it's an option, try switching the song. It could help you get into a better editing rhythm and whatnot.

Maybe for editing this works, but studying I still need the internet, meaning Self Control it is!

@kalinski, You're welcome. Perfect time too be introduced to it too, its now that midterm grind.

Just go on when rendering would never be a bad compromise. I also would like to promote editing shitfaced

Do what I do and just don't edit at all, letting hours of footage rot on your hard drive never to see the light of day.

I use self control, as well as doing a 25/5 minute work schedule. Work for 25 minutes, relax for 5. Sometimes you lose track of time and work for an hour+ without even checking the clock, its nice

If you can have your workstation in a dedicated room. Just being in a environment away from distractions like TV helps. I never have my workstation in the Internet, just on my laptop which I keep out of the room when editing. I have my phone if I need to check th web for something but phones suck to surf on so it stops you wasting time. Try the radio too, try radio 1 from the uk. Some good shows and you can listen when ever on your phone.

This. I find compartmentalizing to be very helpful, if not necessary for computer-based work. Also dressing differently can help for some people - dress as if you are 'going to work' instead of chilling in sweatpants and slippers all day - it can help trigger your mind into work mode.
