Tips for using less arms

I’ve kinda noticed recently that in a lot of my tricks that involve any kind of rotation, I’m relying way too much on just winding up my arms and hucking. With just shoes I can do a full 360 pretty easily without moving my hands at all (I think most of it comes from my toes and ankles), and 180s on skis I don’t use any arms either, but anything above a 180 I spin mainly with my arms for some reason. I think I mainly kinda realized this bad habit after trying 540s for the first time in a while and I just kinda found myself throwing my arms as hard as I possibly could and either bring off balance and sloppy or just not landing it at all.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to overcome this? I took a long break from jumps and now it’s like I’m learning this stuff all over again.

Also sorry no video, I’ve been skiing alone for the most part this past week, but I already know what I’m doing wrong.

When you go into a rotation, do your arms rotate weird and get kinda thrown across your body opposite of the way your spinning? I have this problem too and I’m trying to figure it out myself

Kinda like this?

Nah pretty much the opposite. My arms stay in the same direction as the rotation, but that is kinda interesting how you’re doing that. You think it’s just that you’re subconsciously trying to stop the rotation?

Yeah it’s probably because I’m trying not to over rotate but it looks like shit. I think I just need to remember to keep my wind up flowing through the whole rotation but idk

Engage your core and hips. Your core is what connects your upper body to your lower body and keeps the rotation cohesive. If you want a smoother spin with less arm movement, keep your core and hips engaged and have a strong set. The rotation should last throughout. Arms at that point are just for stability.

I have this exact same problem too. Makes it hard to spin past 3 but I can't help it. Still trying to figure it out too.

Go back to basics

first 2 points in this vid

Damn forgot about this vid. I’ll def try working on it again this weekend. Also my local is putting together a new jump line this week with some bigger stuff so that might help too, because right now all I really have to work with is a small table top so I feel I’m probably just overcompensating for the lack of air time. We’ll see what happens.
