Tips for switching from snowboarding to skiing??

The first thing I've noticed is that when I want to slow down... leaning back isn't the best idea. I just need to get comfortable leaning forward and mobbing I guess. What would some basic techniques be as well?? I've been four times so far this winter but always with my friends that board. I'm going in a few weeks to White Pass to really learn how but I want to go up to Meadows while they're actually some new duff so some help would be nice..

Tuck by sticking you poles under your armpits so they look like thunderbolts comming out of your ass.jkloljkbut try to keep your shoulders straight? Just fool around and you'll get it pretty soon. i snowboarded for 3 years and switched to skiing two seasons ago and got the hang of it super fast.

Front Seat!!!!! your shins should always be pressed into the front your boots when your jsut skiing around. also, shoulders should always point downhill (except for on rails and rotations).
besides that, dont start wearing your tall tees and baggy pants until you can at least do some basic grinds. otherwise you'll look like an ass.

Pay attention to wear your arms are. Hold the grips of the poles in front of you as if you were holding a tray, but keep the tips angled behind you. You should keep your arms this way until you learn to do pole plants or until you are comfortable enough and forward enough that having your hands at your side wont put you back seat.
Also, if you french fry when you should pizza, youre going to have a bad day.

have you ever heard of the famous chineese skier named Shintung? he was good because he pressed his Shins into the Tounges of his boots.. so if you wanna turn left press your right shin into the tounge of your boot, if you wanna go right press your left shin into the tounge of your boot

You'll look like an ass anyways.

OP

I made the switch last season myself. Best thing to remember when you make the switch is that unlike snowboarding. Being on your heels isn't a safe spot when it comes to ski's. You will lose all control.

Lean forward your hips need to be in front of your boots, if you're just starting don't immeaditely start trying to carve get the basics down, also forget what everyone says about your kness and hips turning is all about opening and closing your anklesI can't teach you online but i reccomend you take a lesson

I'd say the hardest part will be to convince your parents that you aren't gay anymore. It's gotta be tough to yo-yo like that and have them still trust you.

Thanks man... Yeah I've found out a few times that leaning back isnt' the best strategy for slowing down. Thanks to everyone else who's replied as well.. if I knew how the k+ thing worked i'd use it but w/e.. No worries on the Tall T's... not my style anyways. I'll be working at bachelor until spring break next winter so hopefully I can get a huge season in next winter!

What are some other edits that are kind of in line with the Nimbus videos? I'm a n00b and they're the ones that got me hooked on skiing, just want to find some more to watch b/c I've seen them all like a million times... Thanks!

dont be ashamed to take a lesson...also, if I where you, Id start with a softer more forgiving pair of skis if they are your first pair.

i switched last season....best advice i can give is just be on ur skis as much as possible. i know not all of us can afford to be skiing every weekend. so i would even just go in my backyard and mess around. i already had a rail back there from snowboarding so i jumped right into that. that might be a little fast pased but you know wat im saying. get comfortable and work your way up and have fun

Actually you want your first pair of skis to be stiff... more support. You don't need something forgiving when you're jumping 10 foot jumps.

Biggest issue for me when I switched was the whole dominant leg thing. It was really easy for me to turn one way on my skis but my "dominant leg" from snowboarding would hold the wedge and not let me turn the other way. Gotta relax both legs and remember that your legs are working in unison. It was kind of a mindfuck at first.

Point your knees and body in the direction you want to go. Don't be afraid to go faster. When turning on the steeps....lean downhill.

I switched from snowboarding to skiing 3 years ago....best choice I ever made....I am officially clearing 10ft jumps now!

(Thought I'd clarify this since I saw you're going to be riding Bachelor...)

Being on your heels is the worst idea unless you're in POW, then it's the BEST idea! :D Pow is amazing cuz you can lean back like a mofo and from side to side... SO FUN!

I have the fatest pow skis known to man and still lean back... Get more speed! :D

You don't have to... but that's the one exception you can and you won't lose control.
