I just got started with park last year- like crappy little ones and threes and now i want to take it to the next level. I was hoping someone could give me some tips on hitting a straight rail.

stay steezy

Do not:

Stand up straight

Look at your feet

Keep a close stance

Do:

Stay low

Look at the end of the rail

Wider Stance

Put some pressure on your front foot.

This is the second time I've seen you post that picture. I find it to be pretty obnoxious, because I remember when I first joined I was really worried about putting stuff in the wrong section or sounding like a newbie. And I don't care if you're "joking".

On topic: All the advice given above, but just remember, don't slow down! It's scary at first, but the faster you're going, the less time you're on the rail.

Keeping a good speed is especially important as you move onto bigger stuff. (I've gotten stuck at the top of a rainbow.)

The five rules of rails.

Pop.don't stop.drop.swap.bop

-"pop" make sure you JUMP. otherwise you'll lose half your speed by catching an edge while getting on.

-"don't stop" make sure you COMMIT if you can't imagine yourself doing it, then you probably can't...

-"drop" bending your knees and keeping a low center of gravity will help you a ton.

-"swap" don't worry about switch ups yet...

-"bop" afterbanging is the most important part... Make sure you dont wash out the landing.

And for christs sake don't look at your feet.

for urbans - especially downward urbans, dont hop that much onto the rail. just enough to get you onto the rail, makes it much easier to lock on and ride the whole thing. if you give it too much pop you will come down harder on the rail and it wont look as fluid and it will be harder to ride out the whole thing.

also if you have knee pads, consider wearing them when learning switchups.

if you're learning you want to keep it really really simple. the one key piece of advice is to hit it with both feet at the same time with your feet a bit wider than shoulder width apart.
a lot of people say to hit it with your downhill ski first but that makes it complicated. if you hit it with your uphill ski first you'll eat shit. therefore, BOTH SKIS AT THE SAME TIME.
apart from that just look at the end of the rail and fail less each time!

This is probably the clearest way to sum things up. All you need now is to practice.

EXPECT falls, bruises and lack of style.
