Tips for backflip

The other day i made a pretty good jump to try my first backflip off of. When i finally tried it (like 3 runs later to get the balls) I commited pretty well and i thought i was good but then i didn't come all the way around and busted my shit. My friend told me i didn't spin back hard enough but i thought i had spun back pretty hard. Any advice. Are you supposed to swing your arms to get harder spin? Do you lean back in your boots as your going off? Just like what do you do?

all in your legs dude, really push off the jump with your fet and bring your knees to your chest look around around, land

figure out your 'spot' that you'll be looking for when you come around, hit your lip, pop, head back, tuck your knees, and look for your spot -- keep looking and you'll come round.

but ya check out the trick tips cult

The way I have found is best of a couple of different methods is:

1. Come into the jump as normal, crouching for the pop.

2. As your tips are going off the end of the kicker; pop and throw your hips up and forward, as if you're thrusting.

3. Immediately also throw your head back as much as you can; this will set your rotation.

4. Hang your feet back, this will lay you out and you can spot your landing.

5. When landing is spotted, bring your feet/legs the rest of the way round and stomp that shit.

6. Afterbang.

This may be wrong and I'm sure other people do it other ways; I probably haven't explained very well but it's worked for me, minus the afterbang bit; I'm not "gangsta" enough for that.

just huck er you got it! don't think about it too much all it really is, is an inverted straight air.

It's all in the hips dude... as you are going up the jump get ready to pop off the end of the lip. Throw your arms up, head back, and most importantly, pretend like you want to fuck the shit out of the sky.. aka thrust your hips forward and up as hard as you can. It will come around easy if you follow this advice.

1. Find a diving board

2. Do some gainers.

3. It is the exact same motion and very tough to hurt yourself!!

1. approach kicker at appropriate speed2. Crouch, ready to pop3. as late as possible, pop real hard and throw your back and head back as hard as you can.4. bring your knees up at the same time and bring em up hard to get a good tuck, this should throw your spin real fast5. Keep a look out for your landing, extend your legs out when you see it and absorb the shock6. ride away.

n.b. for part 4. you can thrust your hips out instead and keep your feet behind you to get a steezie laid out backie, not necessarily harder, just unconventional/chilled.
I find backflips easier than 360s.

Oli, I've seen your backflip attempts on that video from Hinterglemm! Maybe follow your own advice, or add:

6) Land on head.

pop off the lip, use your thighs, throw ya chest toward the sky, and keep on lookin back. when you see the ground, pull them legs around n land it clean.

see new 2bi4 edit for a textbook backie by spencer harkins!

Yea i can do it off the ground even i can do doubles and cork 900's on a tramp and some sick stuff like that so i thought since i can do a backflip off the ground i thought on skis it wouldn't be that hard but it so different cause ur not moving foward when ur on the ground so it's wierd

Damn you Nicko for being on NS on the odd occasion! Yeh I landed on my head but that was attempt no 1! I think you'll find that before I broke my leg I was stomping them on SS!!!

Dont do them, pretty soon they become second nature. Then you start using them to guinea new jumps so you dont feel stupid doing straight airs. Then you over shoot one on a new jump and break your back. Besides they aint even that cool.

word i feel bad for the people who have to do something on a jump first try so they dont feel like a tool. safety first kids!

If you can find an airbag setup anywhere near you; I highly recommend going; you can just do backflip after backflip after backflip and find your most comfortable way of throwing them consistently without fear of injury. It's the only way I learned; before that I used to mess them up all the time; like this:

I don't agree with this advice. I can't gainer a diving board or even backflip a trampoline but I can backflip skis. I just huck it, its not hard to figure out the motion after a couple tries.

Yea when i tried this last thursday there was like 4 inches of snow on the ground and it hurt pretty bad when i fell i think next time i'll try i'll wait for at least 16 in :)

Alright well I don't feel like reading ot see if your question has been answered but I'll just give you some advice on how I do flips.
I learned them last season and I have them on lock right now, at least rotation wise. East coast landings are rough.
Anyways, I first make sure its a good jump. I hit it a couple times and get comfertable on it.
Now to the actual backflip part. First I set my pop. I set myself pretty low because here the jumps aren't big enough to just float a flip.
Next, I being to throw my head back, throw my arms up and kick my feet over my head all in one motion.
Then I keep pulling my head through to finish the rotation. Then ride it out and ski away.

What he was trying to say is that if you are able to gainer on a diving board (much harder than doing a b-flip on skis..) then you should be able to b-flip on skis because it is that much easier...

I was exactly the same minus the flip on the ground, just build a jump in your yard or somewhere into softer snow, then when you can do it on that, take it to the park and you got it

i say scratch the b-flip go straight for a cork 1880 its much easier and you dont have to land on yur head.
jk
1. come in to jump in low stance ready to pop2. get to top of lip pop and in one motion kick ur legs up and look back as far as you can with head spotting landing as u flip3. tuck your legs in to ur chestkeep looking back4. stomp it5. look back and watch people screaming "ohhhhhhhhhh!!!!!" and "HES NASTY"
