YO FUCK YOU to these people. Terrain Parks on the east coast are getting the axe left and right, and you casuals are OUT HERE HATING ON NEW PARKS THAT AREN'T OWNED BY VAIL… Despicable. Mad embarrassing for our image as park rats. Y’all sound like spoiled brats. We all should be SUPPORTING Thunder Ridge and their step in the right direction. Not everyone can afford to go ski at their dream parks out west. Use your voice to support what you love, NOT try to tear it down before it even begins??

“They’re interfering with skill progression”

You can flip. SICK. ME TOO. Go do it at Mount Snow. Chances are they’re not even gonna have features big enough to stop your trailblazing progress in inverted aerials. Practice everything else while you’re there. If we all SUPPORTED their announcement then maybe they’d want to do even MORE park shit in the future. Meaning MAYBE!!!! they’ll have a jump line where we can flip!!!?

If you reading this could go flood @thunderridgeski on IG with some positivity and make us park skiers look like decent human beings.. that would really help our cause.

Thank you for your time ??

I grew up skiing at a hill with banned inverts

Just stomp that shit and ski to the parking lot. Do it for the glory and don’t post it on the gram.

Dude.. exactly ? This is the mountain where I learned to ski, but outgrew very quickly.. so seeing people hate on them when they’re FINALLY trying to be cool and offer us a better park setup just hurts.

From a quick google search, the ski code law in NY looks like it was adopted in ‘89 which is pretty late compared to some of the skier acts out west. But it still was before terrain parks. There does not seem to be an amendment to the NY law to outline terrain parks as inherent risk like we have done here in CO. This totally is adding extra risk and liability to all NY resorts.

again i just very quickly searched this so take it with a grain of salt. Maybe more digging would reveal something about terrain parks but i didnt see it at first glance.

Mad confused on the context. Does the park not allow inverts?? Is tvat what im reading??

They’re embracing the demand for park, but aren’t legally allowed to condone inverted aerials

Ya and supposedly the locals are getting a hissy fit about it like babies

Exactly, not even just locals. The dude that runs Jibskins can be seen hating on the comments aswell. You can also see me viciously defending the only park within 30 mins of my house Lmaoo ??

I feel like these kids don’t realize how much they can progress without flipping. In fact, I would say a bigger chunk of progression comes from non-flips. Does NY also ban corks and bios, super non floppy rodeos, that kinda stuff?

Same thing went down at Bristol in NY years ago. The mountain dropped a statement "No inverts". I've never seen anyone, myself included, get yelled at for doing any kind of invert. If something does happen just say "sorry didn't know; it was supposed be a cork"? Sounds kind of fun to hide the flips from the patrol tbh.

Sucks kids are sitting there online/in their heads and get all hot/bitch n moan to the mtn or parkcrew about something that's not really that big of a deal imo. In real life, in my experience, its nothing to get tight over. I'm assuming resorts put out statements like this to cover their own ass if something serious were to happen but I could be wrong ab that.

fuck those kids bitching in the comments they are all soft.

No invert policy growing up was great, I had an excuse to never learn scary inverts. Then big bad vail came along and got rid of that rule, thanks a lot vail, I'm just a pussy now.

Seriously though it does suck growing up at a mountain that doesn't allow inverts, but a park with no inverts is better than no park. Usually corks would be considered fine.

Kids are also dumb as fuck sometime and try their first backflip when it's icy as hell.

It's a stupid rule but whatever. Most mtns have noved past it but I get it. Park setup looks solid for a small spot.

I rode and eventually worked at 2 mtns in NY that had no invert policies at the time. Gore and west mtn.

As far as the policy generally, most injuries come from over shooting jumps, jumping off knuckles to flats, side jumping at mach 10 to flat. Some injuries come from flips but it's a pretty small percentage.

I get that it's from back in the day but it kinda sucks. I wonder if they have a leash law for snowboards still.

I think people are just bummed about it. I get it. Going about it the wrong way but sometimes you just wanna get upside down.

I like places that have a no invert policy but don't enforce it. Like have a sign maybe yell at somebody once in a while but then let people do their own thing. Might be harder at such a small hill though.

Fun looking park though. Not super familiar with the place but I live northwest of albany in the daks.

I think u can flip at hunter.. I mean, I won their lil rail jam last year by flipping over their box and the judges counted it. I don’t think they have the invert ban everywhere in NY.

But seriously, just practice ANY other of the 100s of tricks when u go to Thunder… it’s not that big a deal. Plus there’s no way that small of a park would have a jump that you could “progress inverts” on

A park with no inverts is better than no park at all.. THANK U!!! Good Park skiing in upstate New York is RARE.

Right?? Fucking send a flip anyways if you’re so badass. I have zero issue not flipping for the day of the park is finally less than an hour from my house. Buncha wanna be pros

I totally get where there all coming from. It’s super lame. Anyone who can flip usually has it down pat. I just hate how they went about it. I really think that if there park gets great support, they’ll build more of it. Meaning maybe one day we’ll get a jump line we can flip on.

As for the leash law.. I don’t think so. But I personally think snowboarders should have even more red tape on their day at the hill (No lift access, No bathroom useage, No drinking water, ect) ??

I don't care about progressing inverts but it'd be weird. I feel it's saying you can't do a 360, or can only slide left foot forward. Sure. Still looks like fun but what if you want to mix in the other thing?

Probably wasn't the best way to announce it with a huge picture of just that. They could have done a better job and been like "Hey guys. Just a reminder we have a no invert policy with our insurance. We can't allow inverts here but we're putting a lot of work into making a great park for you this season" or something.

"NO INVERTS" probably is responsible for 50% of the aggressive feedback.

Also upstate NY? Upstate? I can not condone these lies. I guess its farther north than white plains

Yeah no Karen definitely made that post. Big finger waving vibes. But it’s honestly kinda smart, we’re on ice for a majority of the season over here in UPSTATE NY I SAID IT IDC. ?

I worked at a night skiing mtn in marginal snow area. Rain and sleet freezing brick. Brick in the morning. Brick in the afternoon, friggin zambomi would come out for the glacial night vibes.

I'm going to ignore any lies about geography

Don't blame park crew, blame your local ski areas ownership and management team and their insurance policies. Ski areas all over have been getting the pinch because of this since COVID. That shut down of the industry killed everything

Caught em lackin’ today in the comments lol.

I dont really care what east coast hills allow or not allow as I dont ski there and dont plan to ski out there much and especially not at these types of hills. However I wouldnt be stoked to pay to ride at a hill and then be told certain tricks arnt allowed. Then told I need to " learn manners" because I vocally disagree with their decision. Seems like a case of you not taking criticism well rather than the commenters here being overly critical.

Dog… NOBODY is happy with limitations and invert rules in the park. Including myself. But there only real decision was to finally give us a real park. They did Not want to ban inverts, if they could let us flip, they would. But they can’t! So instead of canceling the entire park build, and catering to the elderly (again) they worked around it! I think that deserves the utmost respect, and I’m seeing the exact opposite in the comment section.

Thunders park has always been a rinky dink little shit with nothing to it. 1 little box, 1 little rail, 1 little jump. Not at all worth the trip. Until Now!! We have a variety of sick rails to play with and other features. All under one condition… no flips.. YET. They even said maybe in the future once they work out the insurance policy.

Calling them “gayyyy” in their comments is absolutely horrible manners. Just go ride somewhere else if it’s that detrimental to your “progress”… like they’re bouta go pro or something lol sit tf down.

My goal with all this typing and defending is to stoke the flame. Not snuff it out because it didn’t immediately fit our demands. If they give us an inch, we can take a mile. Show up, follow their lil rules, support their park efforts so that they’ll say “wow! people really love this!” and one day they’ll expand. We’ll never see them grow if we have a bunch of front flippin’ cry babies talking shit directly at them in their comments before it even opens.

I get ppl wanna flip, and I do too. But for now I think the best bet is to play along.

Like if u vocally disagree, then physically go somewhere else.

What about the classic workaround for this. If you do a front flip on the first jump you do a backflip on the second and they cancel out. If you cork to the left, you cork to the right. If you spin the same way or throw a dub you might get arrested but it makes sense.

Same if you hit jump one and get thrown a little funky and roll down the windows. You might be doing hotlaps but it's still winter time my dude. Hit the next jump and roll those puppies back up before you get sick.

Zeb Powell caught an edge on the take off trying to spin and laid out a backflip for self preservation. Should he have taken the reverse swan dive and break himself to avoid breaking the rules?

Forgive me your honor but sometimes you just gotta lay out a flip to feel alive. At least I'm not on the drugs! Or at least not all of them.

These are facts. Case closed. Bring out the dancing lobsters ? ? ?

Update: I rode the park. It’s insanely impressive for this small lil mountain. Loaded w park rats. I met the kid who backied and made the rule more prominent. He’s a good kid. God bless em.

NC is the same way in every mountain here but the no inverts rule is only official enforced in local comps when ski patrol is present.
