Hey All,
Just wanted to take a second and answer some of your questions...
First off, FORWARD will be mostly digi this year, with a bit of 16, (probably about a 80-20 split). Like someone mentioned though, well shot digi looks alot like 16, and I can promise you all it will be a challenge to separate one from the other.
As far as shooting 16mm goes though, for one, I definitely cannot aford it! At an average of $50/minute for 16 (film, processing, printing, telecine) it would cost me $90k to have shot everything I have so far this year in 16 rather than digi. The production companies that do shoot 16mm probably spend 3 or 4 times my total budget just on their film and processing alone!
But this is all a moot point, because even if I had that kind of flow, I wouldn't spend it on shooting 16.
Aside from the slight difference in picture quality, there are SO MANY advantages to shooting digi. I'm going to try not to get the debated started again, but digi does the job just fine, or better, as far as I'm concerned, and my movies wound't be what they are if I ever limited myself to 16.
Thanks for all the good words and support... and buy my movies so I can try to stay in the ski industry for another year!
