Throwdown 18/19

Actually? I thought it sucked, wonky jumps, mooncraters, the top rails were sticky. Might have been an off day, but i don’t doubt it will get better after they get the full park up.

Wasn't a fan of the jump either. But all of the rails were awesome. Lots of creativity in that set up with the transfers and flow. If you let park crew know that the rails are sticky, they'll wax them for you. I think I heard the full park will be up this weekend

lol not the case with Spirit. Fat tube was sticky so I sprayed the veggie oil and rubbing alcohol mix on it, guy on park crew said "hey, no more tube lube" I just thought he was joking because who doesn't like slick rails?

Anyways it got sticky 2 hours later so I went to grab the tube lube... as soon as I picked it up the rope operator stopped the rope, came out of the shack, and yelled "DONT YOU DO IT! I'm not starting the rope up until you put that bottle down."

I can see it being a safety hazard if people slip out, but honestly a rail that's too slick is safer than one that's too sticky. Anyways, it kind of ticked me off how sensitive they were about me just trying to let kids get more tricks and have more fun on the tube. Maybe it's a liability thing...

Pure curiosity, does that rope operator even ride? If he does he'd know that lubing up the rail is preventing injuries...

Their jump was steep but fun when I was there the other week. Never really had issues with sticky rails there either ?‍♂️. Always had a solid setup where I was there last year. Great place to learn new tricks imo

I liked their park last year a lot just this year it was nice but it was the little things that I had an issue with, like off lips, weird kickers and such. probably just early season stuff.

I'd stay optimistic. Give it another chance in the coming weeks, because I've quite enjoyed what they're doing.

Is tow up throw down a waste of my time, there is one at buck hill which is kinda my current home mountain but like do all those pro trollhaugen kids come down for that kinda stuff, like will I just be obliterated?

For better or worse, I highly doubt you'll find any of the troll boys there. Should be a good comp for someone looking to have fun with it. With "TUTD" don't expect it to be well organized or there to be any top notch prizes in my experience

I was there today and it was lowkey fire, a bunch of long and creative rails and a flat spinable jump, was kinda packed tho

Aight haha, I haven't competed in a long time and would love to just experience a taste of it again and it seems like a good time, I'd be at buckhill anyway so might as well, would love to even take home a tee or maybe even hoodie or beanie or something, not in it for the prize. I just feel like the pressure motivates me to send new tricks and go bigger than usual, as long as I feel that I stand a chance of showing some face or podium or whatever.

Welp my sciatica caught up with me and took me out all weekend. Talking pain spikes down my leg that puts me on the ground. Constent nerve pain from Friday to Sunday, still pretty bad. Got my 3rd round of pt on Wednesday and considering an mri if Im not feeling better after that. Thank God for tens machines.

Dang CP! Rest up and get healthy man!

Definitely pulled an NBD today: double eject mid-air. I dare anybody to challenge me.

Long story short I was winding up for the illest double shifty ever seen on the mini jumps at spirit. As I'm rolling up the lip I know I got it. Just a real hard tweak to the left then to the right. The pressure builds. The takeoff becomes ever closer, and closer, like a stick that had been thrown off a bridge into a swiftly moving crick. I enter the air, a brief euphoria that can be described as nothing but nirvana. I throw my skis hard to the left... CLICK! CLICK! I am now airborne with nothing but my boots underneath me. It was the purest form of air I have ever experienced, sans skis. Floating. I see the landing approaching so I put my feet down and hoped for the best. Miraculously I slid it out for about 3 feet before having to run it out. Sprinting like Usain Bolt in the 2008 summer games. I go back to retrieve my skis and I hear a heckle from the rope "YARDSALE" and I was crushed, but little did he know that this yardsale was an nbd. Right as I get up to my skis I see a girl on a snowboard fly through the air. She was graceful and full of elegance until "SCHMACK" right into my skis... knocking them down the hill I just hiked up. I gathered my belongings and went on with my day which was the longest of the season at 7 hours.

I hope you enjoyed my story.

Too damn cold in Duluth to ski, although hiking the backyard rail isn't too bad in these temps. Made it up to bohemia Sunday and it was less than -5 the whole day, goggles kept freezing up so I just ditched them, snow was stupid slow and sticky but 5" of fresh and pockets of 1-2ft deep stuff. Little boho (the hike-in hill) was prime, super deep and untracked. Hoping it warms up a bit here lol, I'm seeing -26 in the forecast this week and Embarrass will probably hit -40 and I'm not talking wind chill.

Looking like it's going to be heckin cold everywhere... Ended up spraining my neck filming for Human Being Ep. 4 so with these temperatures, it's not a terrible time to have an injury hit. Hoping to be healthy by the weekend!

Gonna toss an update since it's been 5 days... Temps finally warmed up and the snow has been pretty decent the last two days up at spirit. Got super close to landing my first super-kendozer (fs fr6), got it around perfectly but the brake caught in the snow and ripped my ski off... tried again a few times but the rail I was trying it on is not meant for 6s.

Also spirit's pipe is finally done and that's been a blast! Sure it's icy but the walls are really vert this year. And the big jumps are on fire currently. Can't speak for the first one since I haven't hit it recently but 2&3 are $$$. Might try to get corked if conditions call for it... no promises. Eric pushed up the landing on third so it's much nicer now and not a step down with a 50ft gap. Still only 2 rails and a wall in big park but that'll change in the coming weeks. As for the rope park, it hasn't changed in well over a month and I'm getting pretty sick of it, mostly because there's no rollers for the rails. But I smell a reset coming soon with the 12+" possibly coming through this week!

And a backyard park update: 20ft tube with a 2-3ft drop off the end for 4s out. Might build the car jump in the coming weeks with the inrun being the double drop off the roof & garage. And a brand new feature that I've never tried building before... a 3ft by 25ft mini PIPE! Backyard should be epic if the snow comes.

Tell a friend tour was fun.

I wasn't really vibing but that's mainly my fault. I was super tired and the park was meh for me. But I was stoked to talk to erik again lol. Found some good snow to turn through out by summit though!

More freakin snow in Duluth... Had some of the deepest snow I've ever had at Spirit last night. Talking some patches on the sides of the runs where you could sink 2 feet mid turn. Ditched the mini pipe idea in the backyard and using the snow for a stupidly large backyard jump, also fresh pvc arriving sometime this week.

Spirit rope park is fully reset but I'm not really feeling it. There's a sweet rail line up in the big park now though.

Troll's park set was def not up to their own standards. However, I believe this is due to trolly bowly happening this weekend. They needed the right steel to put in Summit.

The Line boys were fun, as always. Very approachable and fun to ski with. Hyped to get up to Duluth this weekend to ski around Spirit a bit (pray that the wind is mild).

The wind has been brutal the last few times I've been out but I think it'll mellow out soon since we won't have the endless snow cycle turned on. Currently seeing North winds at 4mph for this weekend. Will be dankers.

Snow was good so I did my first flip of the year last night on one of the big jumps at spirit (woop woop!) Just a mellow flat 3 but it felt great to go upside down again. Spirit's jumps are insanely good right now. All the knuckles are 3-5ft above the lip with steep landings. You just float right over and come down real nice.

Hell yeah bro I’ll definitely hit you up, also if you’re ever at hyland hmu as well

Still dealing with sciatica but back on skis. Won the ruroc at troll tell a friend tour and got to ski the steeps at summit.

Had one other day this week at afton, arv 96's may be my next ski and cleared the 6 kink. Good times but still frustrated that I can't pop or cough without pain shooting down my leg... Making progress

Sounds good G, my snap is like zbos555 if you actually want a filmer or know anyone that does tell em to hit that lol

As much as no one wants to talk about it... who has the details on the Elm and Hyland closing days. They're always the first to fall

I’ve heard talk about hyland possibly closing mid April this year

I saw a comment on instagram that elm creek planned on the last day being march 17. Then a couple days ago they commented that theyll just play it day by day.

I retract my last statement, whoever told me that was listening to some boof, they are closing in 2 weeks

i mean shit they could they got a mad base every year because of how they build their park, but yknow, that would require effort.;
