Thoughts WRECKALLECTIONS: The Mike Hornbeck Mini Movie

So smooth. Personally, I loved the feel of not having it be all about sponsors and product placement. Great to see a skier's perspective without all that: family, friends, and bangers.

Agree. Loved how he mixed it up with lifestyle, urban, pow, park and pops! His "hippy" dad is rad!

Absolutely. It's one of the best edits/segments I've ever seen that truly encompasses who someone is as a person and skier. This is who Hornbeck is; it touched on his roots growing up, relationship with his father, how he got into skiing, the evolution of his legendary style, to getting to explore amazing places like BC, Japan and Korea, all through skiing. Something that he never thought possible. The interviews and VO are real, not some trumped up bullshit about "that indescribable feeling when riding pow".

It's fucking awesome. It had a great flow from segment to segment as well, Hornbeck and Corey did a great job compiling this. Awesome soundtrack too!

Hornbeck fucking slays, I honestly couldn't have been disappointed by it. It was so fresh to finally see a pro thats chill not like the fucking Wally project. Hornbeck keeps it chill and he's so sick that it was just inevitable that the short film/edit was gonna be as good as it is/was.

Define "chill." People need to stop analyzing the lifestyle shots and pay more attention to the skiing. Just b/c TWP didn't have a bunch of lifestyles doesn't mean Wallisch isn't a "chill pro."

It seems like the quality of edits has increased lately. This, the Benchetler one, and the Wallisch project have made me really stoked on skiing.

Chill means that he's not just in it for the money, futurespins and sponsors and selling out as much as he can. It means that he's true to the game and is simply in it for the love of skiing. Fuck your lifestyle shots i couldnt give less of a fuck about lifestyle shots. Im talking about watching the actual skiing man.

I really love these solo projects, really shows us what the skiers are capable of doing and they are not limited in time or quantity of shots that they can use (like in Level 1 movies which have lots of riders to showcase so not all of the skiers' shots make the movies). Don't get me wrong I love regular movies and will keep on buting them, but solo projects like that really showcase what the skier can do, his personnality and music tastes. Wreckallections was incredible, congrats to all if those involved, it was really refreshing!! Hope to see more of those in the future.

How do you know Wallisch is just in it for the money? Hornbeck switched to a bigger ski sponsor just like Wallisch when he got big enough. I'm not saying either of them were selling out by doing that. As a pro skier those guys have to make enough money to sustain themselves and move their skiing forward, and projects like Wreckallections and the TWP would not be possible without proper sponsor backing.

Are you going to keep the same job you had in high school for your whole life? Are you selling out by taking the better paying job?

I have no idea what you are getting at with the actual skiing. Does Wallisch ski TOO hard?

Dude shut up and just enjoy them both. But realize they are both different skiers, people, and did different style projects. Take a nap.

Probably a troll, but on the off chance you're being serious.... So you're saying Tom is only in it for the money, futurespins and sponsors, thus he is a sell out. Well you have a right to your "simple" opinion, but do you think Mike could be traveling the world skiing in amazing places without having a big sponsor like Armada? Sponsors are what makes their lifestyle possible.

No man what I understand your viewpoint but I think i didnt correctly express myself.

I'm saying that I'd rather watch Hornbeck because I enjoy his style of skiing more then tom wallisch and personally I have more respect for the guys who just put together and focus on making segments as best the can for a dope part in their respected films. Tom Wallisch has adopted the future spin and competition side of the sport even though 5 years ago he was no more then some guy who won the superunknown and was just out there to film with 4bi9 and chill with the homies. Has he simply matured or enjoys the competition side of the sport? Thsats not for me to say but personally I can have the opinion that this is him not in it for the love of the sport but rather simply to sustain himself and make as much money as possible. Personally I just respect Hornbeck's style and way of life and skiing more. He doesnt film with 5 or so different media companies and coach at every summer camp in north america. Hornbeck represents the dirty, grimy and hardcore ski bum lifestyle. He skis not because he has to but because he wants to and loves to. As you said he makes next to nothing and I can be pretty confident in saying that TW makes way more then hornbeck does. This is just my personal opinion, Im not trying to force my opinion on others just voicing it in a forum meant for discussion and thought provoking opinions.

This argument is getting dumb but...

What makes you think that Wallisch doesn't enjoy what he is doing? How do you know he doesn't love the sport as much every other pro?

Watched it today in my film making class and tried my best to contain my "Ohhhh shiiits". That shit was beyond tight, Keep doin ya thang hornbeck.

likely not a troll dude, just a guy that missed one point: wallisch loves what he does, just like any other rider. he just loves the hustle more.

SIMPLE, dude, think of it like Jay and Nas. Jay is commercial as fuck and unapologetic about it. killer MC, probably one of the top 5, 10 of all time. but he knows he's commercial. he's putting money in the bank because he can and because he wants to, and there's no problem with that. can't knock the hustle.that's the page that wally's on. pushing limits in the name of hustle.

mike homewreckin chronbeck is more like nasty nas. Nas could put out tons of albums, singles, music vids, do world tours, whatever. but he's too busy backpack rappin. the emphasis is on new thought processes, new stages. don't just push envelopes - push into new ideas. could probably throw down some popular shit, but why? it's not about the populace. it's about how you visualize the game.

wallisch has managed to innovate at the X-games level and has done tricks at the urban/park level that nobody even thought could be done. hornbeck invents tricks, sees things in new ways, redefines games. both are influencers, innovators.

but if you only read one thing i wrote, read this: both of those guys love the sport as much or more than anyone.
