Thoughts on jerrys and rental kids in the terrain park

At my home resort alpine valley, the amount of jerrys and rental kids is unbelievable, it pisses me off, they need to monitor the parks to keep the gapers out like at a park in Norway where they have a jerry net which is a rail in the middle which you have to hit or you gap the fence

Thats retarded, what about the kids that want to learn park but cant drop cash on park skis, so they ride their brothers older hand me downs? I started riding park last year on an old pair of k2 carving skis, and still don't have a dedicated pair of "park" skis. At least my rossi s3s have twin tips, but they are by no means "park" skis. Restricting skiers by what they ride is just fucking stupid. There's a kid at my park who rides some regular all-mountain skis, and is learning park. His progression is good, and he is a cool due, much nicer to ride with than alot of the spoiled park rats who think they're the next tanner hall. Stop asking so many questions dude, just ride and have fun. That's what this sport is about.
 
I think banning rentals would solve all of the problems, atleast at non tourist locations. If any of the rental users are good enough to hit any features, they are most likely damaging the skis so the resorts could use that as the excuse to ban them. I know perfect north does this and it works pretty well from what ive heard. I do not agree with a rail for a gaper trap unless the mountain has atleast 3 parks and the gaper trap is in the big park.

Tbh, no park skiers just start with full tilts, twin tips, and the latest Saga jacket. The only way to keep skiing from dying is to be open to the new kids, weather they are good or not. We were all kinda like that kid, but instead of banning them, just teach them. When they snake u on a side jump when you're finally committing to that trick, don't flip out at them, just tell them what not to do. It sucks, they suck, but you just have to live with it.
 
I ski at a small small resort in Ohio. 90% of the resort are Harry's. Getting mad at them is a waste of time. It's better to just explain to them some etiquette and if there is a wave of jerrys coming just let them pass. Not worth getting mad about, we all start somewhere.

Banning rentals in the park is a thing I think it's a good idea
 
I say ban rentals from the park. There are plenty of other places to learn. Being in the park with rental is dangerous for everyone.
 
But there are some kids who go on ski trips with their family and just rent skis... besides that #bantherentals2k17
 
I ski at Alpine too. Yeah, they suck and are in the way, but get used to it. You were once one of them as was I. Except for these three ten year olds who sing down the mountain and go over rollers. They piss me off.

Truth! I was boosting off jumps for several months when I was a munchkin, then my dad got me my first twin tips for my 13th birthday.

I definitely support the whole "teach them don't yell at them" mentality.

Though I know it can be hard to keep a good attitude

last week one of my athletes fell, so I stood at the box with my poles X'd to block it off and some jerry came and hit it anyways and landed on my athlete. I had one of my other athletes stand with X'd poles while I helped them up and as I did that - Jerry's friend hit the box and ate it but he hit me this time.

I helped them up and explained the proper procedure of checking landings and looking to make sure nobody has the feature blocked off for a fallen skier and just the general park etiquette that they could benefit from. their response was to ski away while I was trying to teach them how to be safe, then as I skied by them a couple minutes later there friends started shouting some pretty vulgar stuff at me.

So yeah they need a chance to learn - but it needs to be in a small park that is properly designed for beginners. Anything with at least a 25 foot jump in it should require a park pass IMO
 
I ski at the pine too and just the other day when da boi$ were shredding, on the same run, 2 of da boi$ got taken out by some jerry while hitting the jump. One was fine but the other broke his collarbone again lmao, jerrys are dangerous keep a look out
 
Jerrys can can also be very dangerous. When they stand just onder the knol of a fifty footer they can get crushed, injuring them and more importantly, the skier jitting the jump. Maybe there could be like a free but mandatory video you have to watch to get a park pass.
 
it all depends on what park u ski at. my park has so many rentals, it isnt even funny. i dont have a problem with them being in the park as long as they aren't in the way. I was up this weekend and every time i wanted to hit this medium size jump, there was a group of jerrys standing in front of the run in.... parents need to educate their kids on park etiquette, or resorts need to figure out a way to keep jerrys out bedsides a jerry net

but thats just me lol
 
Bruh skiing is a sport of acceptance. We all do our own thing. We were all jerrys once so chill tf out. Being on a ski website, you should know all of us have experienced the same problem.
 
Horseshoe valley does a park pass for 10 buck. Works great for keeping the dad +10 kids out
 
I say we put a fence between the lip and the tranny on jumps so people can't ski around the side and sit on the knuckle or landing. That would eliminate knuckle tricks, sure, but at least you won't get destroyed when you land.

Correct. There is nothing wrong with nicely explaining etiquette and safety to someone in a respectful manner. If you yell at someone they will tune you out and nothing will be accomplished.

I could see having a proficiency test for the big features. Let anyone go in the kiddie parks, but to go for the big stuff you should have some knowledge. I don't know how to enforce that, but it would be safer for everyone. I think lots of parks have signs about etiquette and safety, but I don't think most people read them.

I spend very little time in the park, so it does not really bother me, but passing around basic knowledge would help everyone.
 
I think it would be quite helpful if there was some sort of park on or very close to the bunny hill. It could have a few boxes, one short rail and one tiny jump. That way the little kids would have their own park to be gapers at, and eventually learn how to hit boxes and rails before taking it to the proper terrain park. Maybe even have some sort of rule stipulating a certain skill level to enter the proper terrain park, could be as simple as "can slide on box sideways"

Where do you get a rental kid? I could use some help around here. Never occurred to me to rent a kid but it sounds like a great idea.

i have a basic pair of downhill skis but i still tend to mix park into my ski days. As i believe twin tips/ park skis make you look more natural in a park, if you think that should be the line between your acceptance into the park than that's just dumb. I got downhills at first but when i started experiencing park i realized it's a more fun way to ski, i plan on getting park skis eventually but if anyone tried telling me i don't belong in the park based off my skis than i'd be highly disappointed in the human race.

My park has that which is good enough for me tbh
 
Everyone was a jerry at one point they just need to be taught. Jerries in the park is good for the sport as annoying as it is you just gotta teach them
 
If they’re at least straight airing jumps and 5050ing boxes while staying out of peoples way then I’ll allow it. It’s fucking stupid tho when it’s a family of asains who just snake everyone they possibly can at 5 mph and don’t even try a single feature.
 
Was skiing down the park one day and a park crew member had just raked and painted the lip. It was a pretty slushy day. I hit it and then right behind me a Jerry come through and mashes the lip to the ground. Park crew guy and I had a good laugh about that
