this makes me sick..read!

downloading free songs is the opposite of communism. 99 cents a song isnt bad, ull get better quality and shit. and how many songs do you actually listen to.

yeah i just read in todays boston globe that theres a few musicians and a disc jockey that are paying back the girls mother for the $2000 fine she was required to pay.

SLTskier: there are so many girls in freeskiing now have you noticed that

stowek2: yep..theres a few skilled ones...a good number who love it and want to progress, then a bunch of morons that are trying to impress the boys by wearing as little clothing as possible and as much make-up as possible on the hill

SLTskier: yeah however im one that trys to progress and impress the boys :-)

haha, the funniest part about all this is that nobody ever bothered to counter sue the RIAA for anything!

I am prepared to defend my music and software collection and have built up a list of infractions and such committed by the RIAA...

I'm not saying that you shoudl use any of this stuff, but if you get in a jam and you don't have 2 mil to hand over to the RIAA then, yeah

- The RIAA has hired hacker groups to emplant viruses in MP3 files and other files on p2p networks that spread to an entire collection of music or software or videos and then allows them to see on a visual map (like a traceroute kinda thing) where that file has gone.

- Theoreticall you could counter sue them on the simple basis that they erased your hard-drive without your consent and therefore they destroyed personal property (and yes, once a song is written in ones and zeros on your hard drive they can't say that they own that section of your hard drive) and stuff

- You could say that they searched your computer illegally and so any evidence that came as a result of that would be void and concidering that is all they are using for evidence...

- You could bring up the many international copyright and patent infringes that the RIAA and other such companies have comitted and (kinda like blackmail) say that if they feel so strongly about copyrighting thoughts and non-tangible stuff than why would they steal ideas from other people.

- The best one that we came up with is that if you are screwed up the ass and they have you for like all kinds of stuff besides stealing or whatever than you could alert the media and get on national tv and tell the stupid bastards that if they considered making some decent music rather than mass producing shitty stuff than maybe people would pay them for it...

That's only like a bit of the list, but me and my friends wrote down all kinds of stuff and then gave it to our law professor and she helped us pick out all of the stuff we could use in our defense and in prosecuting them. I only have proof for my part in it and I'm sure my friends have their sources...

Wow, I have been typing pointlessly for like a while now and nobody'd going to read this and it has no point so I'll just stop now and let you all bitch at me once again

You'd think I'd learn...

On my way to goddom

i read it, and thanks. so it wasn't pointless afterall

fuck the riaa fuck socialism or whatever COMUNISM RULLES YEH YEH I WNAT.... well i just ran outa coke, sorry.

Is the RIAA suing all used record stores too? Cause the artists aren't seeing any money from the sale of those used discs. So, people are making money off their music. Isn't that worse?

they shouldnt sue any one for downloading song.

has anyone seen the $.79 for each song on tv. that is by far the wrost move anyone could do is sell songs on the net. they will be dead very soon.

Ya it doesnt make sense, and im not sayin that im for it, but 8 or 80, its the law, and this girl broke it.

UNBAN MOMMY!

One goose plus two goose foh. Sometimes you gotta slap em togedduh.

They cannot really sue anyone for peer to peer sharing of mp3's, the settlement was based on the fact that she couldnt hire decent representation to defend her for less than 2000$.

Fucking greedy pussys, 17 cents to make a cd, they sell em for 20$, of course shit like this will happen. You pushed us too hard to begin with. Whats even worse, is that its only the rich that can afford the hacking shit. I still buy cd's from developing groups, so they get my support, but for the love of god, madonna doesnt need an extra 12 mil in her pocket.

'We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind, cause they dont dance, and if they dont dance they aint no friends of mine.

Downloading music is stealing. Simple as that. But I still think that it is fucking stupid that people get so mad about it. Everyone these days is so uptight about everything. They are already swimming in money. Everytime I see that show Cribs it makes me sad to see how greedy people are. And besides that, I don't know how many times I have downloaded a song and then, based on that song, went to buy the CD. But...goddamn...people are greedy. And uptight.

Ah fuck it, I'm moving to Canada.

Thanksgiving is kind of a weird holiday. I mean, we're celebrating the one time in history we got along with the Native Americans. Its like a date rapist saying 'We should concentrate on the great dinner we had before the evening started.'

^ The part about the downloading a song to see if you want to buy the cd is true, but the RIAA should learn that they really do have to get good bands that make good music that people would actually want to listen to rather than mass produce Britany Spears cds and sell them for 20 bucks...

On my way to goddom

ok, man, whoever said downloading music is illegal doesnt know what the fuck he is talking about. It some situations, ie napster, yes it is. However, SHARING music IS completely and perfectly legal, same with making peer to peer networks, since in order to get that song you must buy a cd, than share it accross a peer to peer network. Would the FBI break down ure door, and arrest you for sharing a cd to a friend? Fuck no, read into it first, than share your opinions. If she were to defend herself, the cost would be more than 2000$ for a lawyer, but she would win the case.

'We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind, cause they dont dance, and if they dont dance they aint no friends of mine.

You're lucky! and to the one before that, that's why you go to law school and study this stuff

haha, then you don't have to pay a lawyer cause you have yourself and all your teachers to back you! at least that works here... *cough*

On my way to goddom

common knowledge, defending yourself in a court of law is the dumbest thing you can possibly do.

i didnt say go to law school, i said read into it. Wait, first you should try to read what other people say before you criticize.

'We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind, cause they dont dance, and if they dont dance they aint no friends of mine.

I was being sarchastic dude, calm the fuck down...

And just as an off topic question, can you like co-co-counsil yourself? like if you have two lawyers from two different firms and you decide that you want to deffend yourself, can you keep the two lawyers and kind of use them like puppets? it's for this SS project i'm working on so I figured I'd ask here before trying google and wasting time...

On my way to goddom

Thank you GhostDragon. Mp3 have exposed me to hundreds of bands I would have never heard of. They are a promotional tool.

If the industry is worried about a decrease in record sales, it is simple economics. Lower your prices, and more people will buy CDs. The only time I ever buy CDs now is when I am concerts where the CDs are 5-10 bucks and I know where my money is going.

And Freezy, it is not like all of us mp3 sharing people are lazy, out of work, punks. I have a great paying job and I would love to buy every CD that I ever wanted, but it is hard to keep paying 20 bucks a CD when I am saving for college and paying for other, more important items.

here is an ironic development. if musicians and a dj are paying for the 12 year old girl's fine, arent they losing more money then the 12 cents that the riaa sued for?
