Unfortunately most of the country isn't a part of the upper-middle class and still has to do christmas shopping. I think the bigger problem here is with the corporations and big businesses than the people who feel obligated to try and take advantage of the deals.
 
i honestly don't mean to judge or criticize, and i'm definitely not speaking about all americans (because a bunch are still being rad and thankful), but it seems to me some people this holiday care far more about things than giving thanks.
 
the disparity in wealth between classes, and how big businesses take advantage of that gap on Black Friday and other days like it.
 
If there wasn't a demand, there wouldn't be an event. Don't just blame the corporations because people are stupid. It's business, not the roman empire.
 
Isn't the idea behind Black Friday that it gives people a chance to save a lot of money on their christmas shopping? A lot of people go out to buy presents for other people, not themselves.
 
Obviously there's a demand. There's always a demand for cheap things because most people don't have the money to spare. People aren't "being stupid," they're just trying to make ends meet the best they can.
 
I get that and there is a level of exploitation, but there's also a lesson somewhere in all the shit about teaching your kids to live within their means and not depending on a sale to get more stuff. It's simply being happy with what you have.

S'all I'm sayin.
 
if you are trying to make ends meet, maybe you shouldn't go buy a bunch of shit that you can't afford?

if you don't have money to spare, don't spend it. Don't blame corporations for the greed of the consumers because they 'NEED that 55 inch plasma tv thats ONLY $700'.
 
The exploitation goes both ways. Consumers don't necessarily depend on the sale, but they take advantage of it because it's there the same way businesses take advantage of consumers because they know they will go out and spend a lot of money if the prices are low. Neither side is completely at fault, obviously, but I don't think this is an example of something being wrong with humanity.

This isn't directed at you specifically, but it is a lot easier to sit on a pedestal and preach about living within your means when you've never had to struggle to do so, as is the case for most kids/people on ns.
 
Again, I don't think black friday spending is a selfish thing. I think it's more about recognizing that going out and getting things on sale means that you'll be able to give your child/family a slightly better christmas/holiday season and make them a little happier, so it becomes worth it.

I mean it's not like anyone enjoys dealing with crowds like that, right? People do it because they either have no choice, or want to make the lives of people around them better.

It's part of the commercialism during Christmas that keeps our shitty economy hanging on. Black Friday is a good thing.
 
Only in america will people stab and trample wach other to save on sales exactly one day after we celebrate how thankful we are for what we already have.

Or because they are stupid, you can get the same or better deals on pretty much everything at multiple other points during the year people just aren't smart enough to plan ahead or be patient.

I think it's more about convenience. Not many people have time to go around to dozens of stores everyday looking for the best sales.
 
But it doesn't take that... anything you can get at walmart for cheap on black friday can be found at other promotional times throughout the year or if you spend 30 min online can be ordered for cheaper, again proving people are fucking stupid.
 
Perhaps people don't know that? Perhaps they aren't "fucking stupid," but ignorant. I know I'm not going to change your mind, but consider considering that.

There's also the christmas element of things. I'm sure you'll call people stupid for waiting until late November/early December to do their Christmas shopping, but a lot of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday craze does have to do with people trying to get their Christmas shopping done cheaply.

Just read that a WalMart worker in Long Island was trampled to death.

Honest to God, we should simply lock everyone in and burn the fucking places down next year. The world world be a far better place.
 
Yup, its Americans buying foreign companies products that keep our economy going!

Black Friday was a decent idea 10 years ago, now people literally kill for savings of 25%. That's not a good thing.
