I wanna start by saying i respect everything the ski patrols does. But tell me if this is how it works at your mountain. say you get hurt and you head to the clinic or first aid get taken care of or whatever. You go in, ski patrol or whoever does their thing and then they send you on your way no charge?

well last week when my friend got a wicked ice burn and went to the 'on mountain clinic' not only were they independent from the hill but they also charged insane amounts. my friend was charged 160$ to have his side wrapped and a little neosporin. and even with his insurnace their was still a 50$ co payment. so tell me if this is normal, outrageous or im just writing this cuz im high?

That's a little weird. Blackcomb patrol not only treated me on-scene when I got hurt, but sledded my ass down pretty much ALL of Blackcomb. All for free.

each mountain is different and has different policies from what i know. sounds like the 'independent' outsourced med team on that hill is a bunch of money grubbing wack asses.

only out of bounds shit should pay IMHO.

 
I got a concusion and broken ankle at Winter Park, Co and they charged us $1000 for x-rays and like.. hospital housing fees. They sent me a real nice card though a couple months later. We had to pay the bill since we were foreigners from michigan. I think insurance got it eventually.

I broke my arm at whiteface a few years back and they sledded me down and splinted it for me with no charge, then I went to the hospital to get it fixed and put in a cast.

Yeah for X-rays and stuff you get charged a lot. They don't even do those on the hill where I ski. As for ski patrol stuff I thought that was always free. That sucks you got charged. I'd be pissed. If you are a minor I bet you could get out of it unless you had a gaurdian sign something.

yea i probably should have looked at the ticket but i just assumed that it was all like you guys said. we were just surpirsed when we when in there, we knew it would cost money but not to that extent

In Australia, as long as you dont need the prefix of Dr to legally treat someone, ski patrol do it for free. They charge to re-set broken bones and x-rays and shit, but if you go to a public hospital, its all free. Thats right, no medical insurance needed. At all. That is one thing that does suck about america. Ski patrol will give you oxygen, hold your hand, bandage you up, but thats it.

Come to think of it, the only serious accident I saw on the hill last year had a doctor called out on a snow mobile. A guy overshot a 40 foot tabletop by about 20 feet, faceplanted, massive head and internal injuries, bled all over everything, died two hours later. Not cool. they had to dig up two feet of snow to get the blood stains out.

In tractor pulls, a 'full pull' is the best you can get. Ahh, how sport mirrors life.

yep thats totally normal and understandibal because it costs money to run those places and keep them staffed.

at my hill if you get hurt its 150 just to go it to their hut

then another 150 for pain killers

and ANOTHER 150 if you get x rays

i broke my thumb this season (bad enough to need surgury) and the total charge for everything, docs, cast, docs, surgury, nurce, docs, pin, taking the pin out, is coming out just a little short of 10 grand

they really hit you for this stuff

i was the dumbass that didnt call for ski patrol when i needed it,i waited around and went home to take a shower,THEN went to the hostpital,almost cost me my life if i fell asleep that night,but it was cool in the end i had a big room with lots of electodes hooked up to me

when i busted my arm, i walked into the ski patrol hut thing and said 'hey i think my arms broken', they poked it abit, and said 'no you should be fine' So my mom drove me an hour to the hospital cause i knew it was broken, the dumbasses at ski patrol dont know shit

 
No, canada sucks, I'm pretty sure its Switzerland that has free health benefits, like going to the doctor and all that is free. Good country.

uh, in canada you go to the hospital everything it's free except for medications, on the hill you get hurt ski patrol gets you to the hospital, its their job

Here's the deal, patrol will cart your ass off the mountain, check you out, and mabe treat you totally free. They are staffed by the mountain, therefore paid by your lift ticket. You start paying money the second a DOCTOR starts checking you out because they are on a seperate salary. Therefore it is just like going to a real doctor's office. Therefore if they have an MD after their name, you're going to be paying.

yea i agree now he shouldnt have seen this dr. but when half of your side has been scrapped off and is bleeding i think it makes sense to go and see first aid, especially if you think its not going to cost anything, its not a matter of being a pussy or not.

I've never heard of the mountain charging for that. I have had ski patrol attention who then temporarily fixed meh up and then I went to a real doctor to fix mah brokeness.

We'll have you dead pretty soon.
