ok, in the first issue of Axis, there was a 'most influential skier' poll, and belanger and pollard were the winners. today it would be tanner, a guy who could barely ski outside the park, and acts like hes the shit.

pollard and belanger are awsome, they dont need to be whiney bitches about not being the best. belanger never won an xgames even though hes probably the best pipe skier in the world.

for style, the guys that were in there were super progressive and were inovators... mike nick, candide, julien, jp, jf, etc... those guys had style, and were inovators, now it would be, tanner, dumont, etc... gangster idiots who think theyre the shit. i think everyone needs to read the original Axis, and learn about influence, style, and innovation

tanner used to be a competitive mogul skier, and he was fuckin good. simon i agree, but tanner just accels at park, and noone even cares about his other disciplines

Now usually i dont give a damn about forums about pros but this one caught my attention. Yes I agree tanner does definately act like hes the shit while hes not always. Ad phil and pollard are some of the best skiers in the world. But tanners is great outside the park and hes probably the most technical park skier in the park around and hes got lots o style. So you cant bash him just because hes not as rounded as other pros. he s just a guy like you and me so dont bash him until youve met him.

i dont hate the game, i hate the player, if you follow me. his skiing is sick, no doubt, but i HATE HIS CHARACTER FRONT. im saying that he should not be an influential skier the way he is, skiing wise mayeb, but his personality is lacks. If you remeber why pollard and belanger were considered the most influential skiers was because they had good character and were good skiers. it wasnt skiing alone, it was their positive image.

Man I totally agree with you. All theses little shit fuckers like tanner and dumont need to look at guys like Candide, TJ, pollard, Belan, Gagnier, Chrichton, Olsson, etc, etc and get some fuckin class. Dancing around after you win is what you did when you were 10, not when ur 20 and on tv.

Tanner acts like he's the shit, cuz he is... he's better than anyone on this site will ever be. And he skis lines in AK that are pretty decent, maybe not up to Seth Morrison's calibre, but he's a great skier outside of the park too.

Sometimes the attitudes are rediculous and I think he whines sometimes, but overall, he's an amazing skier, I'd probably be as cocky if I were that good too.

im glad gagnier beat his wigger ass into the ground in slopestyle and he did it with class, respect and style. go charles you're the man. and theres plenty of skiers that are on the same level as tanner is now anways. hes not that big a deal. wait like two or three years and guys like tj, bibby, kye, petite etc are gonna be shitting on tanner.

mmmmm, I woud like to direct you to dubski... Tanner is amazing... He is the one pushing most of the progression in the sport today. As of yet I have only seen two real butters in skiing. TJ on his nosebutter to switch 3 and tanner more so on his switch butter to unnaty downrail. Tanner is pushing it no doubt. The butter was just an example.

ok, tanner is not the best freeskier, jib skier maybe (maybe), but there are a lot better freeskiers out there (candide, douglas, seth, pollard, etc...)

also, just because youre good doesnt mean you can be cocky.

i wasnt the one who quoted belan as one of the best pipe skiers ever, it was from freeze or freekier, but i do think they deff have a point.

also, this post was not a tanner bashing post, i do that quite enough elsewhere. the post was to point out that the attitude of skiing in general has changed, and deff toward the negative

I think a lot of skiing is luck. Ever skier in the X Games could have thrown the same run as him, but fell. They could probably nail that run 3 out of 5 times. But there is also the consistency factor involved. Tanner nailed his 2 runs without falling because he works so hard at it. He is an awesome, consistent skier. Probably the most consistent skier in the sport, but that does not mean the best by any means. I would like to see Tanner do a cork 810 to rail. That would be interesting...

There's nothing wrong with being a wigger while you ski. I do it, but I have conflicting styles when Im not skiing. So Im a wigger skier now, can I be a influencial rider??

I remeber the first axis. I'm pretty sure I have it in a stack of ski magazines at home.

As for influeential skiers, I completely agree that Belan and Pollard should hve been and maybe still are the most influential. However, the sport has expanded so much in the past two years that maybe the most influential backcountry or big mountain freeskier won't be the most influential pipe or park or even rail skier. Two years ago one guy could almost be the best or even top 5 at most aspects of the sport. Now its getting more specialized, so the most influential guy on rails (Iannick B. in my opinion)won't be the most influential guy in the park (Tanner or Charles G.)and he won't be the most influential guy in the backcountry (probably still Pollard). It just goes to show how much the sport has grown and evolved in the past two years.

 
Douglas, don't ever forget him. That guy is as influential as any of the mentioned above. The 1080, no matter how we look at was mostly in part to him. Douglas is awesome, and though he may not be the best skier right now, he is probably one of the most influential skiers (note not just Freeskier) for sparking the 'twin tip revolution'

The most influential doesn't, and never has ment the best possible role model for Kids. look anywhere and you will realize this is true. Tanner is deffinatly one of the most influential. how many of you use the word steez? this word wasn't in my vocabulary a few years ago. Tanner is very influential. as is pollard, seth, Hgo Belan, douglas and so on.

I hope to god that people take their influence from a variety of skiers, the best of what they like in the whole industry.

There is plenty of room for characters like Tanner and Simon or any other personality for that matter. Diversity is the spice of life. I'd have to say Simon's sauce has always been entertaining. Freeskiing is made up of all of our personalities, not just tanner's or dumont's, although they did just get the most television exposure recently. If you don't like Tanner's or Simon's attitudes, then don't act like them. Just don't take it personally or anything foolish like that.
