Hello NS! I thinking but starting my own small business, for personal gain and better chances to get into a good college. I was thinking about hand making (the casing) of bamboo watches. And/or making bamboo sunglasses.

As a consumer what would you guys like more, bamboo sunglasses or bamboo watches?

K+ for solid feedback

Thanks.

Not sure about the watch but I'd be down with sunglasses. As long as they're high quality and don't break after a week or two. Definetly want quality over quantity.

And starting a business is harder than you think...it takes a long while before you make any profit. I tried to do the same with longboards.

you should start a new clothing brand. make sure you post on here about it when you're 40% finished with the website and designs

Sounds like another thread I read. Oh that rhymed

Bamboo watches would be cool, I see lots of the sunglasses already

To start I would make a good website (legit, not like those free google ones that 12 yr olds make)

Bamboo glasses would be sick and phone cases, my mom started a small business of her own, and just to warn you it's stressful, she has to deal with shitty employees, and all that stuff, but go for it, people like new, and if you ever need some diecuts to promote your biz or something hmu

The market for wooden accessories is getting saturated REAL fast. You've already missed the bandwagon, it's gone and rolling away. I'd recommend coming up with a better idea...and those can be hard to come by.

What are you good at? Do you have any skills? You don't have to sell a product, you can make (and sell) a product or sell a service. In high school, I crocheted hats and sold them to people in my town slash a local ski shop. In my later years of high school and early years of college, I did freelance video production.

If your only goal is to better your college prospects, you don't need to start a business, you can do lots of other stuff that will accomplish that goal. You could also just get a (regular) job, those look good to schools especially if there's any amount of leadership involved.

TLDR; you gotta think way more big picture and perhaps consider alternative routes to your goals.
