Thick Hair

Ugghh! So I have really thick hair and it's super annoying while I ski. I've tried buns, braids, pony tails and nothing works well. My hair is always in my face or makes my helmet uncomfortable and sometimes makes the back of my neck itch when I wear a neck warmer/tooby. Does anyone feel my pain? And if so, what do you do about it? (If it helps, my hair comes a little below my shoulders.)

Any advice will be greatly appreciated! (Also, that's me with my hair in a bun as an example. It looks less annoying than it actually is.)

I Have obnoxiously thick and long hair. I usually just do two braids to the front of my shoulders. I've never had a problem with helmets or hats getting in the way. Start the braid like lower(?). Make it looser too so it doesn't hurt in your helmet!

Try and braid your hair at a lower point, like at the start of the nape. You can also go about getting it thinned?

Ugh I wish I had thick hair problems. Lost a bunch from surgery and stress after I wrecked myself and it just hasn't been the same since

Have you tried pig tails, or two braids? That did the trick for me, or part it, and don't pull it back.

I had ridiculously long hair, down to mid thigh at one point. Now it's shorter and more manageable but two french braids have always worked for me. Two regular braids or one fishtail down the side usually keeps it together but not as well. I feel the hair problems though.

I have thick baby hair, so lots of fine hair, but it gets thick enough and I get it thinned when I get cuts. Ask your hair dresser. I usually put on my tuque and then do a side braid, or side braid low and loose then hat, sometimes I just leave it loose under the heaswear.

Ugh you have no idea. My hair is fine but suppppper thick.and easily past mid back. I usually tie Mine in a loose and low braid then tuck it up into my hat/face mask. It's a pain in the ass when skiing but I like it otherwise haha

I don't really think this is a thick hair problem... It's just a hair problem.

The moment you have anything longer than your chin, it starts getting in the way.

My hair is all over the place and I've just accepted it as super fucking annoying but not worth cutting.

The only thing that is every so annoying that it makes me go inside is when all my fly aways start getting frozen and stuck to my face or facemask. Then it's all out war.

I usually do a loose plait to one side starting below the base of my head then pull it around in front of my shoulder and tuck it in to my layers. When it irritates my neck I put my neck mask on underneath it or where one of my skivvys that have a higher neck.

Exactly this.

Alskxnabxjsjnnam, I also have really thick hair but I get it thinned pretty regularly which is so helpful (but it grows back at a ridiculous pace). I mostly wear plaits when skiing though it keeps my hair 'under control' ahah

I have pretty thick hair but its curly and does whatever the fuck it pleases. I either braid it all to the side or do a loose pony. I hate having my hair tight though, I'ts almost always falling out of whatever I have going on, and its always in my face skiing.... but now I feel weird because it doesnt bug me, and I actually like when it freezes?

Frozen locks are sexy locks.

However, I have a thick as fuck wavy mane and got it thinned right before I went to college, 5 years later is well back to its normal state. I wouldn't recommend it. It looked so bad, I had little short hairs sticking up so it looked like a had a mullet. I wore a hat for 2 years because it was so hideous. It's now halfway down my back, braids, hats and headbands are my friends.

I was informed years ago that thinning your hair is terrible for it and will make it come back in a bit thicker than it was before.

Mine's thick as hell but hey, it keeps me warm.

I'm sure it is. I'll never do it again, it looked horrible then grew back thicker and less healthy looking.

I have obnoxious thick hair. It poofs so I try to cover up as much as I can. Usually I put my hair in a side ponytail or low pony tail on my back. On those snowy days I tuck it in my face mask since it goes everywhere. I also put a beanie under my helmet to keep my hair in place. This year I got my hair perm straightened so I'm hoping that my experience with thick hair changes when I go skiing.

all about the fishtail. keeps it all together. and then when your done skiing all you gotta do is undo the braves an insta beach waves. pretty awesome deal

I keep hearing that.... But I get mine thinned every few months and I absolutely love it.

Yeah, thinning your hair, regardless of the method, is the worst.

My hair is mega thick and I've found that layers really help. Usually just pull a side braid for skiing.

Last season, a neard-induced fit of rage motivated me to slash this nice hole in my facemask so my braid could flap freely in the breeze.

I no longer deal with my hair and neck sweat forming an awkward mess of a neard inside my facemask and my facemask actually stays up! Yay!

Here is the hole next to some basic household items. For size reference. Ya know?

I have pretty thin hair but its long and a fishtail works perfectly! Either that or a loose braid keeps the hair out of my face fairly well
