They teach us to be free?

I really dont get this school system. i find myself pulling shit out of my ass and handing in a paper of heartless writing more often then not. Pretty much 100% of what i submit is bullshit scattered on a piece of paper. its funny when the marks come back an i get a solid A for this crap. What are they teaching us? when i sit down and write something meaningful and true... I feel as if it doesnt fit the mould and this is verified when i get a shitty mark. I wrote a cute artist statement along with a lovely photo and handed it in for my art class... got 100%The next assignemt i took a picture of a powerplant that is near our school and spoke about its negative impact on the enviorment. my teacher wasnt for it at all....The last assignment was about myself as a photographer. instead of saying how its an outlet for my creative side and i love to take photos to express my feelings and emotions, i told her that its the only way i can make decent money. I work as a freelance photographer. she failed it.
can we not speak the truth anymore? a picture of a couple holding hands is gold however, all of my attempts to bring up an issue or a true feeling/idea of mine just ends up with a poor response. i assure you there is no deviation from quality of work, its the subject matter... if its really from myself... it doesnt fit.

tl;dr: bullshitting gets the marks, bitches be crazy

most bitches are crazy. but its probably because you are writing better on your fuck up papers....people get to involved when they are talking about something they love about and stop caring about grammar and care more about how they feel. Plus teachers dont give a shit what you write about as long as you meet criteria and do what they say

I feel the exact same. What's even worse is that every single essay they get us to do is so generic. They give us an outline, tell us we have to write on a certain subject, give us textbook pages to do our research from, and we get to work. Every single persons essay is the exact fucking same, with the same points and structure. If you try and stray away and be original, you get points docked for not following the outline. It's bullshit really. But I guess my classes have to cater to the dumbest kids in the class.

A great video on the state of our education system:

i find this happening to me as well, and the fact that i write a brilliant essay and he doesnt even look at it cause its in pencil, or some bullshit like that. school sucks.

If you stay in high school and go to college and throughout your whole life you will always have teachers/bosses that do this. Learning to deal with these people is a valuable skill to possess and will help you a lot as you get older. You may not like it, but i guarantee you it will not go away even when you get out of school. On the other side you will also have teachers that are amazing and encourage you to push your boundaries.

truth.

My only guess, as a person with very, very little context regarding your situation, is that your photos and accompanying statements were too blunt and inert for the project. Sure, making shit up can be making shit up and that can be an indictment on the educational system (watch season 4 of the The Wire if you want to feel better), but telling it straight as it is may be just as lifeless.

Maybe I'm reading in to this too much or maybe I didn't read it at all. I'm not sure; I've had a few drinks.

You know exactly what it is. It is very clear. It is straight up (or is it?). But that is what makes it completely and utterly inert. Dead. Shitty. Etc. There is nothing to it.

Also, you're in high school. If you think the only way you'll make it is as a photographer, well, please don't ask for my money when you're on the corner.

I fucking hated this when I was in school. School today is totally teaching the creativity out of us. We aren't allowed to be ourselves much, when it comes to our education, and it's totally sad. Like, fucking coloring books. Let's color INSIDE THE LINES and be told what we're creating, instead of just starting with a blank piece of paper. My kids aren't gonna have coloring books. Coloring books suck. Figuratively speaking.
