Industry has collapsed entirely and I beg of you to tell me ONE person that makes a year round living off skiing and sponsorships besides Jon Olsson

No pizza delivery in the off-season allowed.

Even during the 08 recession there were pros making a living in this space left and right. Now the space has been pulled back to the Stone Age of 1992
 
dude I know at least 5 dudes from my home mountain who are sponsored and chase winter all year and does training like every day. They get everything paid for them. your delusional. industry is bigger than ever.

There's a difference between earning a living and getting free stuff while their parents cover all of their other costs like personal transportation, insurance, housing and food. He might be delusional but you're a fucking idiot.
 
Henrik is probably chilling, AHall I would imagine is set for a bit after cleaning up at the Olympics, we all know Elieen Gu is loaded. Others that probably make at least median income could be Jesper, Andri Spaghetti, Tanner Hall, etc. Just guessing here, prepared to be corrected by those that know more.
 
James woods probably does ok because he’s pretty much the only UK face out there (Billy Morgan has an ice cream truck now so isn’t making a living full time), but generally it’s a rich kids sport and there sure as hell ain’t no working class kids making a living out of it without financial support from family
 
Phil Casabon, Henrik and Tanner definitely don’t work second jobs. There’s probably 3 or 4 guys on the comp scene who make enough as well.

Depends what you count as "ski sponsors". Henrik and Phil have that Armada and Monster money, plus Full Tilt (rip but they still getting paid) and goggles sponsorships. Idk who sponsors Tanner now but he's got Ruroc probably throwing money at him to wear their shit product and enough accumulated money to last a while. Unless you mean literal "ski" sponsors like Armada and Line skis.
 
Goepper is definitely on his own dime right now. He grew up having to pay for his own ski pass because his parents didn’t have big pockets.

Henrik probably could support himself financially just from skiing, but tbf his dad is a rich champagne importer and according to Tanner, Henrik has never really needed to work for anything
 
There is no more sponsor money. the front page article about athlete union was comical. redbull and monster arent going to support athletes that have no competition scene. legit, x games and dew tour are the only comps, so yeah, two skiers per year have a chance to make any money at all. every pro skier comes from a rich family, why do you think they were skiing as kids, in ski schools? Armada doesnt sell enough skis to support $10000 sponsor checks, pat goodnough pays for skis to call himself pro. China's Line skis is owned by K2, and they arent paying tom wallisch and will wesson dog dick. your favorite "pro " skier has never earned a turn, and are such babies they will cry about not getting paid enough....

A real professional supports their lifestlye without begging from sposnors or mommy.

the kids , 100's per day logged on, and were allowed to join in.

the darkside, the cult that is Eheath, destroyed it.

I'm thinking ski industry, like if skiers aren't buying the product then there's no money. Armada is a good example, a lot of big names on their team get paid from other industries or have other stuff going on and they don't hide it in the marketing to maintain the illusion.
 
If it makes you guys feel better pro scooter, bmx, rollerbladers, mountain bikers, snowboarders or any action sport other than skateboarding has more than a small handful of dudes making REAL money and their forums arent sick like NS so technically skiing is actually dominating the earth atm lowkey
 
And who the fuck wants to make REAL money skiing anyways you’re forced to do lame ass comp tricks that core riders don’t even fuck with id rather work a full time job and ski weekends than risk breaking my bones and training everyday so I can make a few bucks doing something that I can do either way
 
I got paid $35/hr to lap conways in womens pants and a turtle neck for a mall brand. Im literally a professional skier.

This is what happens when you expect every action sport to be like skateboarding. I'd argue that pro skiers do very well compared to athletes in other sports like tRaCk aNd FEilD and biKiNg. Freeski money comes from freeskiers, and there's probably not enough little kids pumping money into the industry at the moment. Also not a mainstream sport anymore
 
is it just me or is everyone on here saying every 2 seconds that the industry isn't as lucrative as it used to be and that everybody is a starving artist now?

like bro it's action sports wtf do you expect. even in SKATEBOARDING, the most popular action sport on the planet, it's relatively few people at the top making the big bucks, or even enough to live off of skating alone. Might be a higher amount of athletes making the money, but it's still probably a similar percentage because skateboarding is way more popular than freestyle skiing.

why do you even care either lol. as soon as someone starts getting really paid n shit, people in this community will accuse them of selling out or being corporate or not being grassroots enough or whatever. What do you guys want? It is what it is.

For the most part I agree.. With the age of social media and literally endless amounts of ski edits and ski content, it's nearly impossible to be unique and have the spotlight for more than a day. I mean do you remember when movies like EDIAS and whatnot were released, and that was pretty much the main ski content for a stretch of the season we had until the following spring/summer? I can vividly remember talking about specific segments on the lifts back then for an entire season. That age is gone now.. Quantities of ski content are just too vast for most ski athletes to be making a living off the sport 24/7 aside from a select few that have been mentioned in this thread.

To be clear I'm not complaining about the new era of skiing, just offering my observation. Cheers OP

FREESKIER / Level1 is just as much to blame as heath@NS. they lied about circulation rates for decades, sold ads and didnt pay skiers, photographers. they limelighted who they wanted to , and blackballed skiers they didnt like. when ad buyers realized this, they pulled the plug, and that shook the comp scenes to non existence. Im still convinced freeskier bought FREEZE and shut it down, that was the beginning of the end.

Skiing was never gangster it was just a bunch of kids who wanted it to be seen as cool like snowboarding because skiers were known for being squares and kicking the snowboarders off the mountain so skiing compensated for not being seen as hard by trying to act like 90’s black guys. You think slumdog illionaire was actually gangster?? Pretty sick skiing but I hope that shit was ironic because if it isnt thats embarrassing man. Skateboarding never went through a 90’s black guys stage because it didn’t need to. cut the bullshit. Im not saying don’t make edits to 90’s rap but the acting gangster shit was never cool, people see right thru that. Skiing can be hard and pretty gangster but it has to truly reflect your personality or else ur just forcing some fake shit.
