The word progression

what are we, a bunch of mindless morons? If I had a dollar for every time I've seen or heard the word 'progression' used in relation to skiing, I'd be able to buy the WRX i want. The whole progression concept is really starting to get to me... if i never see another 'lifestyle' segment, i'll be happy. Skiing isn't some fuckign school where you 'progress' from grade 1 to grade 2, it's a sport. Let's practice, not progress.

The only way to prevent rape is to say yes.

'. . . thou shalt eat the herb of the field ' (Genesis 3:18)

'. . . eat every herb of the land ' (Exodus 10:12)

'Better is a dinner of herb where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith' (Proverbs 15:17)

“He Causeth the Grass to Grow for the Cattle, and Herb for the Service of Man” (Psalm 104:14)

and speaking of progression, whats with this 'taking newschool tricks to the big mountain' shit? When i see big mountain, i don't wanna see anybody throw something other than a straight flip, grab, or maybe a 360. skiing switch in the back country is not cool to watch. i'd rather see someone throw a backflop off a hundred footer.

and more importantly, all these arrogant bastards keep telling me that i can only be a good skier if i rip big mountain and park... what if i only want or can do one or the other? the 2 are seperate things.

ok, i will. but skiing aside, the whole culture is perpetuating this annoying hippy affect. 'yea man... it's all about progression. Free your mind.' Skiing, though addictive, isn't a fucking drug. It's a good way to have fun, maybe even a bit of a lifestyle, but by taking it so seriously we're messing things up. 'Progression' makes something that could be so chill so intense.

Or maybe i have no legitimate argument against the whole use of 'progression,' but we still use it way too damn much. stop.

i think progression is good and stuff...but every single mag coming out right now is purely about progression...its a nice concept, but yea, too much emphasis on the term

Progression is for people who value self-betterment. Pep's segment in 1242 was entertaining. Saying you can't take newschool into big mountain is like saying you can't take a guitar on a camping trip. If you like to do two activities nothing should stop you from enjoying both at the same time.

^great, do it. but don't keep calling it progression... i feel like all newschoolers are becoming sheep to the word. #1, doing tricks on big mountain peaks isn't monumental or progressive. people have been doing it for years. Someone go count how many times you see the word progression in a given ski magazine, or what percentage of pro interviews on movies use the freaking word... skiing is not 'all about' progression, it is not 'all about' style, and let's try not to make it 'all about' ageing catch phrases.. er, catch words.

i don't know about you but i hope to progress everytime i go skiing. everytime i go i should learn a new trick or just make a trick smoother. if you don't want to get better that is you but i enjoy skiing a harder line and trying new tricks.

Alcohol the cause and solution to all lifes problems.
