The U.S/Canadian Border

So lets say I decide to go to Canada to Mont tremblant, and i bring back some drank. I'm 18, and I'd probably end up putting some bottles in the side interior panels, spare tire compartment etc... Is this a shitty idea? I wouldnt be surprised if they searched me, but im hoping that they wouldnt go crazy in tearing the car apart.

Going back into the US is extremely strict. As long as a dog can't smell it you should be good. I saw two guys get busted this summer going back into the US. They were totally nondescript and a dog caught a whiff of whatever they had and within a minute they were cuffed and taken away.

I JUST WENT TO U.S. WITH MY XC TEAM (OP KNOWS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT) AND WE WERE ON A BUS. GOING INTO THE U.S. ALL THEY DID WAS LOOK AT OUR PASSPORTS, AND ON THE WAY BACK INTO CANADA THEY JUST TOOK OUR WORD FOR IT.

BUT I FEEL LIKE CARS WOULD BE DIFFERENT.

ya dont do it, you probly wouldnt get caught, but i imo its not worth the risk. Also, booze is expensive as fuck up here, like ridiculous why dont you just call a friend?

Depends on where you live. Here in Montana, crossing the canadian boarder back and forth is a cinch. All they ask for is your passport both ways.

I'm in Ny. And i realize its probly expensive, but getting booze where i live is ridiulously hard. Everyone in my town are hardasses

my bro went to school in buffalo, a kid he lived with that lives near us in Ontario got busted on hiss way back to school one sunday night.

got kicked out of school, and as far as i know isnt allowed back in the USA for a while

yeah seriously, whenever we go into Canada, they high five us crossing the border. and when we come back its a solid 3-5 minutes of questions.

Don't hide it. It's absolutely not worth the risk if you lie and they find it. Searches are pretty random. I've had my car torn apart for no apparent reason when the week before I got across with nothing more than a quick check of my passport.

it really depends on the border. the ny border at cornwall is pretty strict. i cross the vt border at highgate/phillipsburg 2-3x/mnth since i live in montreal and often go back to vt on long weekends. they have never searched me before, but i think some of that has to do with the fact that i have special work permits that allow me to stay in canada until 2014, so they really don't fuck with me.

i've driven into the us from canada and they looked in the back of the car with a flashlight and asked what was in our ski bags etc but they never opened the car. granted it was a father and his son driving, not a bunch of assholes in snapbacks wearing weed t-shirts and eating taco bell

Border Service Agents aren't stupiid. They see an American 18yo going up to Quebec and then coming back in a short period of time. They know that you will most likely try to bring back some booze and no matter how hard you try you will have a 'tell' when they ask you if you have brought anything back.

Plus the fact that you took the effort to stash it in places where they would most certainly look makes it look really bad on your case.

Good luck!

ok ATTENTION! Since we were going from Canada back into the U.S. and we passed through the boarder we drove through these big walls. My coach asked what the walls were for. Turns out those walls are big x-ray type of machines, i wouldn't risk it if i were you

I went to IF3 from Burlington. on our way up, solid 5 minutes of questions from canada. on our way back, literally no questions from america. WAY different then i had been told/expected, we could've gotten away with anything.

thats because the US has a big x-ray machine instead. and for me it was completely different then what you just said Neal

I've gone over the border enough times to get the full range of questions. I've had my car searched, threatened with the dogs, and once I got my passport handed back to me so fast I was confused by it. It can be done however it's stupid and not worth it. Alcohol is more expensive in Canada and if you get caught over the border they'll either just make you dump it out or hit you with possession. Just go play hey mister if you really want booz.

This is probably over the top, but when I went across the boarder (USA to Canada) to my buddies beach house when I was 18 I used to pour Vodka in brand new unused spray bottles. and throw them in the trunk. That way If the guy asked what is it. Id say rubbing alcohol for my windows because you aren't suppose to use Windex on tinted windows. I was 18 and I over thought the whole thing though but it worked.

I wouldn't hide the bottle somewhere suspicious because they know those places and if they found it they would think you are a scumbag and probably detain you and interrogate you because they are assholes.

if they had an x-ray machine they probably would've seen the empty boxes and empty bottles we were hiding cause we didn't get rid of them (stupid, i know), and they asked if we bought stuff and said no, even though we had multiple boxes of stuff coming back that were fairly obvious.

i don't see it being worth the risk. it's probably cheaper to find a way to get it once you're across, then to get caught trying to sneak it across.

Aight so it looks like stashin them isnt a good idea. my plan b is two get a 12 pac of waters, and fill some up with vodka. i know how to get a factory sealed cap off a bottle without breaking it, so id probly just throw the pack of water in the backseat, or in with a lunch.

Why don't you just find someone to buy you booze in America? It's not worth the price or the stupid risk to bring it across the border, no matter how smart you think are you are about it.

If you're that desperate at 18 to get drunk, you need A.A.

there are easier ways to get alcohol than smuggling. thats just straight retarded.

Does anybody here know the actual laws and whether or not they will confiscate your booze if you just come right out and say "Yeah, I've got a 6 pack"

i live in ny and every time i've gone through they made me open my hood, my trunk, and searched all my bags ive only done it 3 times though i would say it's not worth it.

Its called being smart. I actualy take the time to make sure i wont get caught, and if i think its too risky then i just wont do it.

when we went to whistler for college weekend a few years back we stopped in at the Duty Free store at the border and they had a 2 for $25 deal going on for 1.14 Liter Crown bottles. needless to say we stocked up tough, and just threw them in our bags in the back of the car. there is no issue as long as you act, and smell normal.

if they catch you they will send you to guantanamo bay where you will be forced to eat the cock meat sandwich

hahah are you fucking kidding me!? Do you know how an x ray works? What would possibly turn up in that thing?

haha yeah unless i was smuggling guns i shouldnt have to worry about it. I mean the only thign that would show up is bottles

My experience was the exact opposite for my first trip to canada.

The canadian guy had a stick so far up his ass and asked like 40 questions in an extremely serious manner and extrememly thick canadian accent ("aboot" idk what kind of accent this is and i know not everyone has it but idk what else to call it) and going back to america they just wanted passports and to know if we had drugs and shit

smuggling seemed so god damn easy to me though but the variables probably change with every crossing and i was with my family of 5

depends, ive had cops be complete dicks who search every inch of the car and ask a million questions, and ive had cops who do little more than a toll booth

if someone from a foreign country called a deep south accent an american accent and wrote this after it "(idk what kind of accent this is and i know not everyone has it but idk what else to call it)" i wouldnt call it a hasty generalization. Do you really expect me to know what the fuck a maritime accent is

i know what a southern accent is, and a new york accent, and a jersey accent, and many others so i should hope you would know what a maritime accent is.

Well naturally america is better than all other countries so most people around the world would know what those are.
