The terrible compromise

I play NCAA lacrosse, which restricts my access to the mountain to only winter break and once a week during the season. Who else has to put skiing second to another hobby/commitment/activity? What keeps y'all from saying fuck it lets go shred?

my gymnastics coach doesnt let me ski during competition season so I never really get to ski. Shit sucks

College + living in Ohio + finding a job = Pretty much limits my ski season under 10 each year. Its really sad. But those 10 days... I really appreciate each and every one of em.

80 hours is too much, you should work less. Not really a math problem with you really think about it.

going from 50 days a year to 15 is an unhealthy transition, but I know i'm not the only one who has gone through it.

I'm a doctor in residency so I'm not in control of my hours. Only 6 months left though, then freedom!

Thats real shitty. I play lax as well, though I'm still in high school, so theres no really tough restrictions whatsoever. My season even starts pretty late due to the fact that I live in maine.

Last years problem:

I live in Kansas, going to college, mild winters = 5 days a usual season. my main passion is bmx, due to my location

This years fix:

Got a job with Vail Resorts.

Awwwwh yeah

Well i had baseball 6 days a week 2 years ago until spring break where my coach said if anyone misses a single practice on spring break they're suspended. I had already had an awesome trip planned and that's where i said fuck that shit im skiing. Best decision of my highschool career.

I went out of my way to avoid the compromise, could have played d1 sport in the middle of the country, just was not an option

highschool swimmer here, i have to go ski once during the weekdays at least once, hike the hill 10 times each time i go. no joke.

School has tried to get in the way before but I usually forget about it and ski all weekend instead. But seeing as its grade 12 this year i may just have to chill on the skiing a little bit.

UPDATE: I took all of your words to heart, and quit my college lacrosse team today! Feels fucking phenomenal. Now for the next question, do I stay in shit hole NY and ski at Greek fuckin Peak every day or transfer to CU Boulder and ski some real mountains?

Ha is this even a question? I dare ya to go to their park planning meeting the 22 for a good laugh and then decide.

I work full time during the week, so I can really only ski weekends. If there's a day that's going to be epic I can change my schedule a little and leave in the early afternoon and ski til the end of the day and work later the next day to make up for it though.

I guess I could also get a night pass added to my season pass and then I could ski every day if I wanted to...may end up doing that at some point, we'll see.

Wait, what college is this?

I would have based it purely off how much you love the sport and what your scholarship is. I go to NU and it's all D1 and i get to see some real interesting shit. The only kid that really shred is a soccer player who snowboards and rides with us. Has a full scholarship and used to shred with us on the DL whenever he could in years passed. He couldn't really get a pass and make it worth it. I'm in ROTC and that's a massive fuck ton of time (like 6am every day) and i still get to ski just as much as my college buddies. I might miss one Saturday a month here and there but as long as i'm not doing anything for the B&E show and Traveling Circus coming to Holiday Valley i will be set for this season.

Side note: There are a couple kids from our school that have taken a lot of shit cause they are on full scholarships an skipping D1 shit to go do ridiculous things like long boarding, climbing, surfing, kayaking, a few trips shredding and back packing out west. Most coaches are dicks about it so you kinda gotta pick one or the other.

my itch to get out has gotten far worse over the years.. im pissed i only have 3 days on the season so far but with the shit conditions and being from jersey ill wait until snow flies. my younger years i did play hockey and that forced me not to ski until age 18.(talk about shitty)

Last year I was on my school diving team. had practice every day and rarely got to ski. This year I quit the team and already got to ski 7 days. Hoping to get out there 5-7 days a week this year as long as it stays cold and my home mountain can open soon. IM PUMPED!
