The swag we can't see

Hey everyone,

Instead of hearing what you all wear to look your best on the mountain, I want to hear what you opt for as a base layer. Particularly for your bottoms. I used to use warm-ups (like for running) and they're full of holes and shit, so they need to go. I know there are under armour options, hot chillys, etc. I was hoping some of you might shed light on what works best for you.

Thanks for the input.

I only wear a base layer under my pant if its super cold. I usually just wear basketball shorts or just boxers. But when it is cold I will wear under armour tight things that are super warm.

I always wear compression short-style heat gear as a base because I have no idea how people can do athletic shit with their junk flying all over the place and I gotta lock 'em down or I just don't feel right. Beyond that I usually wear something close/tight-fitting that is made for heat, even if it's winter. My base layer is strictly to keep sweat off my back and to wick it away as fast as possible IMO and cold gear makes me sweat.

As for brand usually underarmour or whatever equivalent looks good at Marshall's, they all seem to perform about the same.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm with you, huck; I sweat like a fiend. Therefore, I've avoided the long-underwear style solutions because unless it's in the negatives, I usually don't need much under my thick ass ski pants.

I normally just wear whatever shorts I wake up in. I get hot easy so it works enough for me.

For the top though, phar north thermals. So comfy and fit perfectly

For when a shirt and shorts won't cut it I use soccer warmup pants(same stuff as running warmups, I just find soccer ones to usually be a little slimmer in the leg). For the upper half I'll use anything from fleece lined under armour to regular crew neck. All the down/heavy fleece layers are too much heat for me.

i have a par of spandex-like pants that are lined with like a thin fleece that i use for rowing and that works well for cold days. normall i just wear shorts and socks. Airblaster makes this thing called a ninja suit and its pretty much thin feety pajamas

I have under armour cold gear from a few years back, now they've changed all of their gear. I used to wear the bottoms whenever I skied, but I stopped because I hate having spandex go all the way to my ankles when I'm wearing ski boots.

Does anyone use or know of a pair of spandex that stops just after the knee?

CWX makes a 3/4 length pair of tights and although that sounds kind of gay I assure you the knee bands really do feel good. Just plan on jacking them to your belly button or folding the waist over a belt and sewing it in, otherwise they will just fall down.

Airblaster ninja suit. So awesome and great quality. Quite warm though so in the springtime all I wear is that, a hoodie, and ski pants. There are probably higher quality one piece base layers out there, but they probably cost quite a bit more.

I am the exact opposite. I've played sports my whole life and tried to convert from boxer shorts to some sort of compression short and it just doesn't work. I'd do some movement and then my stuff gets in a bad position and then gets stuck there, where as with boxers I can reset without having to stop and use my hands.

On the bottom I usually just wear khaki pants because that is what I have on. If it is colder, I will put on some patigonia light weights, but that is rare.

Icebreaker always, they got different weights too so you can get different temperatured ones, expensive but the best in my opinion, Its new zealands finest merino wool and all the specs to it are fucked! when it gets wet the fabric warms up (this is good for the bala clavas cause they dont freeze and it feels good on your face when the snow gets deep), fire retardant, doesnt absorb smell but you can get shit on it that will absorb it like skin oil n stuff, and it wicks really well! best stuff for sutre!

If its really cold out i will wear some sort of heat gear under armour type thing but if its in 15-30 i will just wear a tshirt and basketball shorts with compression shorts.

I wear boxers, then some wicking fleece sweatpants, an Underarmour base layer up top usually with a hoodie or flannel over that, then my jacket and pants. I might switch to a onesie base layer though, I still get cold pretty often... That's just Manitoba for you though.

I usually wear really light sweatpants and I have a couple columbia thermals. The Spyder sweaters work really well too.

I almost always wear Basketball shorts. Never had an issue with temperature and there very comfortable.

For the top I'll usually a T-shirt, Vest, then either a hoodie for outerwear or a windbreaker and then the hoodie for outerwear.

See I used to feel that way but now I'm totally converted. Especially skiing I have to keep my shit under control or I'm not gonna have a good time. Every time I've work boxers skiing my shit as been out the leg and they're all bunched up. It drives me nuts (heh).

Not all boxer breifs are created equal, and some actually give you a good, uh... Cock pouch I guess? Pretty much just some space for your junk to be rather than just smashed. I have found some good brands that work for me and I stick with them. Full compression shorts are overkill IMO but I like that kind of material and a more supportive fit for getting after it and they also wick which is nice to minimize teh swampazz.

I bought mens lulu lemon underwear, and they are the most comfortable underwear i have ever owned. Keep the junk from flopping around but enough room for comfort.

Merino Helly 3/4 tights I got for free a few years ago under shell pants. Just boxers under anything with a lining.

This is crazy. I've never worn or owned anything thermal... Even on cold night park laps i might just wear some board shorts under ski pants. too cheap to spend the money... Not convinced it makes much of a difference & i've never been that cold.

One piece is where it's at. I've been rocking the airblaster ninja suit every day i'm on the snow for the last 3 years and it's still kicking strong. Nothing beats the one piece. Ever.
